Ask yourself these questions-
1 What are its believers like?
2 Do its teachings make sense?
3 How tollerant of other religions is it?
4 Are its rules livible in this modern age.
5 How are the followers treated?

Why do you need prophets, preists and scriptures? Not all religions have them, the older religions have managed for well over 2000 years whithout them. A religion is a personal thing, and it shouldn't be dictated by someone else. You should be able to think for yourself, ask as many questions as you can and receive proper answers. Most of all you shouldn't be made to feel guilty over everything you do.
A religion should compliment your life and not rule it.
Read as many books as you can, study them and make up your own mind. Others should not try to influence you towards their own religion.

People everywhere fail. Judge the religion by the Bible. Go to the source and don't fool around with what other people say. The same would be true with any other religion.

As for the Bible, it is easy to understand unless you try to make it say something it does not say.

I would say study the author of that religion. For they would be the best representation of the beliefs they espouse. The folllowers may or may not live up to the model. But what kind of life did the leader live? There is other criteria as well. Did their prophecies come to pass? Did they have any criminal convictions. If so what for?

by the behavour and thinking of its people and relgious leaders and how it treats others.

Ie witches have always been seen as wicked and evil, and to be eradicated.

Yet any research shows a total lack of wicca inquisitions, murder, war, abuse etc.

Girls are treated equally and a good sign is a positive attiude to sex for pleasure and affection and love. As are gays

If you look at buddist attiudes... far more peaceful and nice to animals

Then you look at islam and videos of teenage girls stoned to death and screming in pain and terror, hnour killings, abuse of gays repression, dominance, no thinking. Likewise chrisitinity was much the same and botherr have a history or war, terrorisim and inquisitions. Shkis have support for honour killings often and hindu have a evil class system

You especailly look at the society it creates when in power.

Judge by actions not words in holy books

Best way is you go through carefully the basic book of the religion. If it does not contradict, not written or corrected by any human being, convincing your intelligence about its super human statements and predictions and if it in principle accepts all other former religions in its original form, then think that it is a religion to be accepted.

I think its by the amount of hypocrisy practiced by the believers. In that regard, Islam is the worst religion, followed closely by any of the fundamentalist christians like JW, 7th day, S_Baptists, etc.

Dont judge. Study and learn as much as you can about other people and other religions. Education will help bring peace on this earth where differences are understood. Unity and not war.

The main thing to look at is its Scriptures.

If its not the Bible, its a bad religion.

If they claim to follow the Bible, and not, its also bad.

And we have, in the USA, lots of church groups which don't even claim to follow the Bible.

And that's tragic.

The one that follows most closely it's holy book. I would recommend Jehovah's Witnesses. Look at this web site and see why.
