First off you need a receiver to run the speakers provided they are the correct impedance, and not 6 ohm like they probably are. Or get a receiver that can handle the load (what ever it is) properly. Also your sub (the large speaker) is unpowered so you will need to find a 7.1 model and do some funky preout to multi in. If it allows a discrete over input. Or a mono amp to power the sub.

Also the Coby speakers are not that high on quality, it is no wonder your aunt preferred the TV sound to them. I think that it will be way to much trouble to adapt this speaker system, that was designed to be as cheap as possible. Hence the proprietary amp/player with a power out for the sub. No reputable manufacture uses this configuration.

I applaud your efforts to reduce and reuse but in this case it is not worth the cost given the quality you will get.

As far as adapting to a TV audio PRE OUT ( meaning unamplifed) you will either, NOT get the volume level you want or you will damage the TV. ( ROD get off it you have not been designing for 20 years with that kind of bunk).

I would recommend that you purchase a separates system (see a professional) or a quality HTIB ( Yamaha, Onkyo, or Denon).

Good luck.

A TV does not have enough power to drive any speakers
(most TV speakers are about 10-15W ).

So, no matter what, you need an AV receiver. A 5.1 receiver would be nice, if not settle for stereo.
Then, as Ron said, your TV needs to support some audio out, either through RCA plugs or s/pdif. Again, a headphone jack will note be very helpful, but better than nothing.
If your TV has no audio out, you can still use the speakers with a DVD player and an AV receiver.

GREAT QUESTION!

Whatever you do, DON'T go taking apart your TV for any of this!

What you CAN DO is:
#1) Determine if your TV has a pair of "audio out" jacks on the back. These female connectors will be color-coded red & white and probably separated from the input jacks.
#2) (but only if #1 is a reality) Either at Radio Slack or wherever, buy a "Female Stereo Mini-to-Female RCA Stereo (Red & White jacks)" adaptor (also known as a kind of "Y" connnector with thise attributes.)
#3) Plug a regular red/white stereo interconnect cable into the back of your TV's "Audio Out" jacks and the other end into the corresponding female parts of the "Y" connector you just bought.
#4) You'll also need a stereo mini-plug (with male on both ends) that you will plug into the computer speaker's "Line In" jack - if it has one.

OTHERWISE, you WILL need a surround sound receiver to do this, to provide amplification of the TV's low-power audio output.

Dang, I sure hope this helps!

Good luck and please let me know how it goes!
