I am told to only drink water. Also I have to fast from midnight on the day before the test.

actually if you are going for any kind of the lipid profile test (cholesterol is one of them), you should be atleast NBM that is nil by mouth atleast 12 hours so we advise the patients not to take any thing at night and get done your profile in the morning.

You should be NPO (nothing by mouth) for at least 12 hours for this test. Anything taken by mouth during this time could skew your results. No coffee, sorry.
