Genital herpes and the virus that causes cold sores on your mouth are not the same virus at all.
And just to clarify - some people have oral sex, but because they've never officially lost their virginity - they believe they've never had sex. I don't know if you fall in this category, but oral sex IS sex, and you can certainly catch the genital form of herpes this way. A true cold sore on your mouth does not translate to cold sores elsewhere....but true genital herpes can outbreak virtually anywhere on your body, depending on where you've had contact with the virus.
Hope this helps!

I've had Herpes problem over 3 years. I tried everything, of course I went to the DR. about a hundred times, probably not that many, but it sure seems like it. It never did any good for long and caused all kinds of other issues having to do with taking too many antibiotics. It wasn't until I stumbled upon the information on this site http://herpestreatment.kyma.info that my life changed completely.
I'm feeling so much better now and all of my symptoms are totally gone. I haven't had an outbreak since using that info. Best news: It works even if you’ve already blown hundreds or even thousands of dollars on conventional herpes medication without significant relief…even if you’ve been suffering from herpes for years, and even if your virus is currently in hiding and your doctor claims nothing can reach it.
I know it can work miracles for you if you just let it. See more: Shocking video reveals why Herpes/Cold Sores meds are dangerous

It's always possible, but HIGHLY unlikely.
Genital herpes is almost always spread by sex or some sort of sexual contact.
It is possible to spread herpes to your genital area by touching a cold sore and then touching your genital area though. It's called self-reinfection. This is why it is so important to always wash your hands after touching any herpes sore. Herpes can spread to the eyes (ocular herpes) or genitals and even the fingers if a person touches a herpes sore and then touches another part of their body.

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/herpestreatments2015utGW
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

So many of the answers given to this question are incredibly false! I get so frustrated when people give false information--if you don't know the answer stop answering questions. Please you are misinforming people! Also if you cite a source then actually read what the source says. I went to a cited source one answerer gave on this question and no where on that site does it state the second paragraph of information the answerer stated in their answer.
This is false information and is found no where on the cite given as the source:
"Yes you can actually...a simple hand shake from someone who does have it or an outbreak and lets say they didn't wash their hands after the use of the bathroom and then they shake your hand and then you touch your face. "
Another answerer said more false information:
this is false: "Genital herpes and the virus that causes cold sores on your mouth are not the same virus at all. "
HERE IS MY ANSWER:
All of the information I am about to give can also be found at:
ashastd.org
plannedparenthood.org
Both genital herpes and oral cold sores are caused by herpes viruses. Typically oral herpes is caused by type 1 and genital by type 2, however both types can live in either location, thus making which type rather insignificant. Either type will for the most part manifest itself in much the same way in either location. The virus, orally or genitally, is spread when one person's mucous membrane (mouth/lips/oral, genitals, eye) comes into contact with another person's sore, which contains the virus. When someone has a sore the virus is highly contagious if that sore were to come into contact with someone else's mucous membrane. If someone has a sore on their mouth and performs oral sex on someone they will likely give that person genital herpes. This type of transmission is very common--which illustrates why education is so important! Thus, someone that has never had intercourse but has had oral sex can contract genital herpes. If you have a cold sore on your mouth, touch the cold sore, and then touch your genitals it is not impossible but it would be near impossible to give yourself genital herpes. The virus does not live well outside of the body and typically dies inthe air--it is commonly passed from sore to mucous membrane. Your fingertip is not a mucous membrane. But, be careful to wash your hands well, people in rare cases have gotten herpes infections in their eyes from self transmission.
I would strongly encourage you to go on the ashastd.org site they operate a herpes hotline and you could get all of your questions answered with confidence.

Yes, but that would be type 1 herpes, not type 2. Cold sores can be transferred to the genitals.

Herpes is caused by a virus which enters your body when you come into contact with someone who is infected and shedding it. Once the virus enters your body, an active infection may develop. If it does, you may be capable of passing the virus to another person.
Yes you can actually...a simple hand shake from someone who does have it or an outbreak and lets say they didn't wash their hands after the use of the bathroom and then they shake your hand and then you touch your face.

yupper,
Believe it or not you can get it from a toilet seat if the person prior to you had a breakout and wiped the juices on the seat, or door handle or their hand and you touched these items then touched your area. cold sore, yes touch the secretion of the cold sore and masturbate with the same hand/finger and in a few days to 6 mo you get herpes.
