We are going to Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Darwin and Cairns and want to take the Ghan. How long we spend in each area is not yet set - we can spend a total 2 months in Australia before work calls us back

Of course I live here - but my top picks for any tourist would be::::

The Great Barrier Reef
World’s largest coral reef system, and on the World Heritage Site listed as one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Uluru (or known as Ayres rock)

A large sandstone rock formation located in the Northern Territory of central Australia. It is listed as a World Heritage Site for its natural and man-made attributes.

The Gold Coast beaches and theme Parks

So much to do, beaches are breathtaking, there's also Sea world, Dreamworld, Movie world and Wet 'n Wild.

Daintree Rainforest and Port Douglas

An award-winning world class interpretive facility that allows visitors easy access to this unique rainforest wilderness via boardwalk tours, a 23 metre high Canopy Tower, Aerial Walkway and comprehensive Display Centre.
Port Douglas is about a 50 min drive from Cairns city – worth it for the scenery!

The Whitsundays

A collective of continental islands of various sizes off the coast of Queensland, Australia, situated between Townsville and Mackay and some 900km north of Brisbane.

Moreton Island – Tangalooma
If you want to go to a little island for a day trip or over-night Morton Island is wonderful - short boat trip out of Brisbane.
You can feed some wild dolphins at night!

Drink some "VB", it's what Australians actually drink instead of Foster's...

Go see an "Aussie Rules" football match...it makes NO sense, but the men in lab-coats at the ends of the field will make you chuckle...

Eat a "deep-sea bug"...(don't ask!)

Eat a "witchety-grub"...(double don't ask!)

If you are fortunate enough to be in the SE of Australia, drive/get driven along the Great Ocean Road...

eat a meat pie ( at your own risk )
Drink at a pub (just don't get stuck to the floor)
Climb harbour bridge
pat a koala (pat don't hold , they tend to pee on you)
go swimming at bondi (stay between the flags - unless you have a death wish)
if you do - hire a campervan and go to NT
eat a few flies (this will happen with out trying)
