THIS IS NOT A HATE QUESTOIN. Just want to understand more. In the Bible they ate Lamb and Fish. (Why then should we not eat it??) The Asian population mainly eats seafood and outlives most other nationalities!! Protein is important for early womb brain development, muscle repair and other body functions. (Where do you get the protein??) I read a report from the BBC and from Harvard that said all protein can not be received from nuts, legumes etc. (What is a Vegan or Vegetarians take on Alcohol??)

Personally, fish should still remain.......but I think some people who choose this lifestyle do it for health, medical, etc. It is irrelevant to the Bible. It is a personal choice.

A fish is an animal. I don't eat animals. I don't care what they ate in the Bible; people in the Bible ate locusts and had sex with their sisters too. I am not a Christian or Jew; although I do acknowledge the Bible as a vastly important collection of religious books, I do not look at it as my diet guide.

You don't have to eat meat to get protein. I don't care what the BBC report said; more misinformation, so what. My wife is a Registered Dietitian with a Masters in Nutrition and we're both vegetarians. Her family is from India: her mother is vegetarian and 85 years old, her grandfather was vegetarian and lived to be 96--he probably would have made it to 100 if it wasn't for the prostate surgery.

I don't drink alcohol. Whether other vegetarians drink it or not is up to them.

Give me thumbs down if you want; everything I said is 100% true.

Well, vegetarians do not eat any animal flesh, and that includes fish. It has bupkes to do with the bible.

Asians eat a lot of vegetables and rice. They also eat a lot of tofu. And very little dairy, I might add. Sadly this is changing, as many Asians are adopting a diet similar to the standard American diet (SAD). And in a generation or two, they may start seeing the same problems afflicting United Statesians.

Protein can be had from almost any food, except sugars and fats. As long as you eat a variety of fruits, veggies, grains, nuts and beans/pulses, you'll be fine. Protein deficiency is almost unheard of in industrialized nations. Even veg*ans get more than they need.

As for alcohol, I don't like the taste, so I almost never drink.

Since I am not religious it doesn't concern me what is in the Bible. I do believe my food choices are the least violent and I think if there is a God he or she would approve of my compassion towards all creatures on this earth.

Asian populations also eat alot of tofu and I certainly do that do you?!
I am super healthy and feel and look great so I feel confident I am not missing something from eating dead fish.

As for alcohol - I only drink on occasion and never to excess so I don't see the harm in indulging every once and awhile.
Some wine and beer are not vegan so I avoid those but most hard liquor is fine. I prefer that anyways. :)

A fish is an animal with a complex nervous system that has the ability to feel pain for the same reasons that we do. If someone is a vegetarian they do not even eat insects or brainless mollusks such as scallops.

EVERYTHING has protein in it. =) Eating stuff like twinkies is the only way to miss out on protein. Beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds and even some pastas are VERY high in protein. If you eat a balanced diet and only eat junk food less than a couple times a week, you will never be deficient in protein.

I have only been drunk once..... to appease my in-laws as a matter of fact. It has been studied and shown that teetotalers that abstain from alcohol 100% are more likely to suffer from dementia later in life than those that have a glass of wine regularly or a drink occasionally.

1. I don't know of any vegetarians/vegans who choose their diet based on the Bible. Fish is meat. So is lamb.

2. Many Asians also smoke. Does this mean smoking is healthy?

3. There are many sources of protein in a vegetarian diet. Google it.

4. As long as there is no meat in the alcohol, I think it is fine.

hehe well.. because eating fish would defeat the whole point of being a vegan/vegetarian (i.e. no meat)
i don't know what to say about not getting all the protein we need from nuts, beans, legumes ect. but regardless, im not going to eat meat or dairy or eggs :)
i personally don't drink alcohol but i don't care if people do, thats just a personal preference, why do you ask? because of the yeast? i don't consider yeast an animal even if it technically is.

OMG you all ROCK I am SO impressed with all the great answers here that I am at a loss for words!

That means it's time for another glass of wine, right? GH is coming on so

Try roasted anise bulb (fennel) while it is cheap! You will be amazed. And corn and cherry tomato salad with a bit of jalapeno-my carnivore mom came to visit and she ate the whole quart!

I catered my Dad's wedding reception and all of the dishes were vegan. Seventy five people didn't know they were animal and dairy free!

You mention the bible. God specified in the bible that as part of mans punishment they could eat meat until the e forgave them and gave them their crops back. He also specified that man was not to kill any animal and that the animal must have died of natural causes prior to eating it. I myself do not like the taste of meat, I think it's cruel to kill animals for food, and it's unhealthy. Yes, even fish can contain traces of mercury and lead that can be hazardous to your health. As for the reports about protien there have been a number of studies that support each view but until I can see actual, unbiased proof I won't believe it. That's the thing about theories. They are simply that, theories and nothing more. They are not fact and should not be taken as such. Here is a web site with a list of places to get protien.

the protein problem is a myth. there's no protein issues with fresh fruits and veggies... and there's a super dose of proteins in legumes and soy.

there. i don't understand who started this myth and why so many are falling for it.

the fish question.. it's an animal.. it's meat.
simple as that.

so if the bible says jump off a cliff... you'd jump??? i don't understand why the bible is getting referenced here... it's a book.. it's a good read.. not a life template.

alcohol is like most processed product. read the labels, find out what is vegan friendly and what is not.. just like packaged foods, dinners, candies, sodas....

it's that simple. EDUCATION.

Being a vegetarion isn't generally a decision made based on religious beliefs. It's made for health reasons or animal cruelty reasons. Although there are groups of vegetarians who do eat fish, most do not because... it is meat! If you're not a vegetarian, then sure... you can eat lamb or fish. But what's in the bible has nothing to do with it.

Vegan vegetarians don't eat ANY meat or animal by-products (no dairy... milk, cheese, etc.), and depending on their reason for being vegetarian, won't wear leather, suede, etc.
