When a friend moved in, we locked him in my room while we unloaded the truck. Since then, he won't come in my room. We figured he just associated my room with that scary day. Well, now he won't go into the kitchen. That’s where is food bowls have been since we moved in and then all of the sudden, he just won’t go in there. Not even for a Greenie treat! He howled and howled the next morning to be fed. my friend put his food in his bowl and he just wouldn’t come in. If we pick him up and put him back there, he gets really low and would take a few licks while watching over into the corner behind the stove. We thought he might be afraid of the mop that stayed back there so we moved it. No change. I mopped the entire house with it yesterday and he didn’t pay it any attention. We’ve had to move his bowls in the dining room, where he will eat then. He'll stay in the hall and hiss at the pantry. Rest of the behavior is normal. Any idea what is going on in his little cat brain?

Does he like your roommate? Cats are very complex in the ways they react sometimes. He could be systematically working himself up to refusing to be anywhere in the house, and I think you realize that this is a possibility.

Why don't you try being the only person to interact with him for a while? Maybe you could even buy one of those exercise trees and put it in your bedroom for him.

I'm glad you love your kitty, and good luck figuring this all out!

Well i can't tell you for sure whats going on but cats in general like there space. They hate change. I have four cats and they all have differant personalitys but one of my cats acted the same way. She didn't like it when i brought in a new cat into the household and refused to go anywhere but my room and bathroom. She wasn't scared of the new cat they got along but i think she was scared to leave a spot that she felt safe. the new cat brought in new sounds and smells into the house that scared the older one. If i had to guess i would think that your new cat is just adjusting to your friend moving in and creating alot of new expireances for her. The house most likely seems differant now with new sights and sounds and smells that your cat is trying to ajust to. she most likely avoids the kitchen because many animals are afraid of it. It is usually more open with less places to hide that other rooms. it is also brighter and if your cooking noisyer. all these things on top of they new person in the house are too much the cat is trying to minamize the things that scare it by not going into the kitchen. most likely the cat just feels safer in other rooms in the house. a couple of things that you can do are 1 - measure out the food that you put into the kitchen bowls your cat may be eating at night when she feels safer, this way you'll know. 2- you can move the bowls just outside the kitchen let the cat eat and in a few days move it just inside the kitchen and let her eat and then in a few more days move it a little more and so on. eventually the cat will learn that their is not anything to fear. After awhile the cat will get used to the new person in the house and it will feel like home again if this is the case the problums may go away after awhile on its own. 3- you can leave the food in the kitchen in my expireance if a cat gets hungery enough it will go where the food is even if it is slightly scared of the kitchen. As far as the bedroom goes try laying on your bed and peting the cat quietly or putting catnip and treats in your bedroom. your cat will most likly start to accosicate these things with that room and stop being afraid. One last thing look in both rooms for some thing that is new since the move, maybe you friend brought something that is in the kitchen that is different from before. this could scare the cat, it is probubly not something that was in the kitchen prior to when these problems occured. May be there is a new clock that ticks and therefore makes a sound that the cat is not used to or an object with a bright color or such this might be it. hope that that helps

You may have 'ghosts' that the cat can 'see' but you can't. Get some 'sage smudge sticks' (large bunches of sage tied together with hemp) and start one burning, and carefully 'smudge' (put the smoke of the stick) in EVERY CORNER of the house/apartment. Do this when the 'cat' can see you start it. Say in a 'soft voice' 'Bad spirits begone, good spirits enter.' Then see if that cat won't go into every room in the place.
I know ... it may seem 'weird' ... but what is happening is the cat is 'sensing' something about that place that you, a human, can not sense. Burning sage and 'exorcising' your living space is really 'quick, easy, and fun' and believe it or not, whatever it is that the cat 'senses' and wants to 'avoid' will be 'gone' when you are done. I don't know why ... but I did that with EVERY apartment and house I've lived in since I have had cats who 'hated' a place until I had done it ... it could be an 'odor' or it could be a real ghost, or it could be just 'someone who really hated cats' ... go to a good 'occult' store or some Arabian stores sell them ... they cost $1-5 and you should be able to do even a 'huge house' with a $5 stick ... and have 'enough leftovers' to do the next place you live, too.

It is a cat's worst nightmare when things chance around the house. Even if you just move a chair in a room, it is bothersome to a cat. Cats a very territorial and it will take some time for the cat to get used to your friend and the furniture. The cat will eventually be fine, just give him some time to adjust.

i understand cats. you have traumatized your poor little kitty, i'm sorry to assert. I did it to my kitty as quickly as I took him to the vet and that i had to place him in a transport field. It became humorous to me shoving his head interior the field then pushing his little butt in there...yet he freaked. Love. Love is the respond (with maximum issues in existence). Love is what kitty desires, so supply him extra petting, conserving, risk-free practices and make him comfortable interior the factors that he's afraid off. Catnip Catnip works nicely. placed catnip in a bedding or towel and placed it interior the "frightening" place and he will discover ways to no longer worry those places and he would be delicate. buddy. Is your buddy a cat lover? i think your cat does not like or is careful or is hesistant approximately this new individual. Cats can experience this. verify your cat is familiar with the recent roommate is a robust individual and not a foul cat vibe. you realize what i'm asserting.
