I am 30 weeks pregnant and I just found out I have gestational diabetes. Ohio Caresource will pay for the blood glucose meter and all supplies. However, I was wondering what type of meter they will pay for. Does anyone know? This is my first time using a glucose meter and I have to check my blood 4 times a day. I am looking for the least painful meter. - thanks.

Who cares what kind of meter they will pay for? Really, that should be the last thing you are even worried about right now. Having a normal baby born alive and well would be at the top of my list personally ---

It's not the meter that means painful or not painful honey, it's the clicker thing that makes the blood come off your fingers that determines that. Get yourself an adjustable clicker that you can dial how hard the sticker will hit your fingers. You can put it on the lower settings and do fine. It takes very little blood to tell. I found mine at Walgreens. It was almost $30 but worth every penny.

When pregnant with my daughter I tested 8 times a day, kept a log I gave to the doctor weekly, and took four shots of hormones a day. All worth it, the child was perfect in every way. After delivery the diabetes left completely; however it was back two years later and now I live successfully as a diabetic.

Best of luck to you.

It isn't the meter!! It is the number of the wire in the pricker!! Make sure it is #30 or #31. the higher the number in wire, needles, etc is the finer it is.

Prick on the edge of the pad of your finger. Less nerves there to hit!

Meters are all much the same. I really like the One Touch Ultra and One Touch Mini. I have one of each. They use the same strips which is the $$$ portion of this deal.

Choose which ever meter the insurance will pay for the strips!! That can be around $95 per month out of pocket if you choose wrong. Just make sure the pricker is a very high number, not some dumb number like 27! That makes big holes in my fingers!!

Been insulin diabetic for 32 years. It doesn't matter what type of meter you get, but be aware that each meter will vary in results from one another. The very best place to poke yourself is on the inside of your forearm. It is absolutely painless there. However it should not be used if you suspect you have a very low reading. In that case fingers are the best, just do it on the side of your finger pads. Good luck with your pregnancy. Take care

they are very small they will give you a best one they have there. what its is you check your blood by punching finger with this needle (should have holder for you to do this) and then you put this blood by this meter (blood stick) is incerted) and then it sucks the blood in tiny bit and reads it for you. if you are just when pg that means later in life you will be diabetic and you must what what you eat. stick to veggies, fruits and 3 oz meats and stuff no fried etc. 4 x day. if you feel it may go high then check one time 3am that is time most have problems. goo dluck

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/IClGp
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

The Freestyle is good. You test your arm and it doesn't hurt. There are less nerve endings in your arm. After a few months you will know what your body does, so you won't need to test so much.
Stay away from sugar.
