Your BP is more or less appears to be normal though it is preferred it is 80/130. Probably this due to the medication you are taking. There is no way to reduce it overnight without medication. You must know that High Blood pressure is called 'SILENT KILLER'
INDERAL - is (Basic drug - propanolol) is a beta blocker used in treating hypertension and angina pectoris and essential tremor. So it should not be discontinued abruptly unless you bring down you BP by other methods. Epitril you are taking for sleep and you can try to sleep with out taking this and if you do not get sleep properly, you have to continue this medicine also.
Now coming to treatment part -
There is no cure for primary hypertension, but blood pressure can almost always be lowered with the correct treatment. The goal of treatment is to lower blood pressure to levels that will prevent heart disease and other complications of hypertension. In secondary hypertension, the disease that is responsible for the hypertension is treated in addition to the hypertension itself. Successful treatment of the underlying disorder may cure the secondary hypertension.
Treatment to lower blood pressure usually includes changes in diet, getting regular exercise, and taking anti-hypertensive medications. Patients with mild or moderate hypertension who don't have damage to the heart or kidneys may first be treated with lifestyle changes.
Lifestyle changes that may reduce blood pressure by about 5 to 10 mm Hg include:
* reducing salt intake
* reducing fat intake
* losing weight
* getting regular exercise and brisk walking of 6 kms
atleast
* quitting smoking
* reducing alcohol consumption
* managing stress.
Taking Herbs or nuts or salt less and fat less food will not bring down the BP suddenly. You have to achieve it slowly without stopping the medicine. -

Just walk for around 2 kms in the mornings and in 1-3 months, your B.P. should come down from 90 to 85. 140 is normal for a 56 yr old.

Try to find out the cause for the BP. If it is stress related, start drinking Indian Mulberry fruit juice twice a day on empty stomach. Once you start this, you will be able to reduce the tranquilisers and stop fully. This will give you relaxed mind and sound sleep with good energy. If the BP is due to coronary artery disease, then you will require medication. there are good ayurvedic capsules such as Rudved / Cardoved / Suved / Rasoved or Slow Gold etc.

im 21 and My dad is 60 and has been on medications - avapro - for high blood pressure since i can remember. he always has blood shot eyes etc:
Sometimes its to the point where he cant believe how high it is.
untill recently,
he has cut out:
alchol mainly wine
dairy like cheese, butter, icecream but not milk - he still likes his cuppa teas and coffees
red meat and chicken unless its free range - keep eating fish as this is really healthy and a good part of your diet, if you dont like fish i recommend deep sea fish like rockling.
i know that some people say you need dairy and you need meat for iron etc: but my dad went on a semi vegaterian diet for awhile that is no red meat, cream, butter, cheese and he tried all the above of what ive just mentioned and he went off his tablets his taking avapro now because he gave into temptation and started drinking red wine and eating more dairy.
if you do need to eat dairy try using low fat and ones to help with cholestorol absobtion, yogurt is still ok as this helps with your digestive system and stomach acids and good bacteria etc: try a olive oil based butter or organic butter - bit more expensive but worth it!!
if you do have to eat red meat try free range or organic etc: but limit it to maybe once a fortnight.

If its high id eat two apples a day. the pectin in apples may help lower blood pressure. and you can eat raw garlig in salads or take supplements daily after breakfest or dinner. and also cucumbers cause they are rich in potassium, phosphorus and calcieum and good diuretic and calming agent. try one every day or use a juicer also looking at a fish tank is calming and can help reduce the hypertension.
