That's what happened to me!
My dad who is now 82 was diagnosed in his middle 40s with it and my grandmother on my mom's side had it in her middle years evidently passed it to me throught their genes. Although I had always been diagnosed as borderline this and borderline that including diabetes due to menier's disease and the dr.s thought there was a subtle condition of diabetes they just couldn't catch, I wasn't actually diagnosed with a full blown case of it until 3 + years ago at age 53! I think I just naturally did things on my own like walking my husband's brits everyday for 4 miles so the dogs < and me> got exercised and always wanted to be a vegetarian so I was mostly vegan with slip ups to meat every so often. I did go completely one whole year without any meat until saint patricks day when I made my dh a saint patricks day meal and smelled that corned beef and cabbage all morning!!!! Talk about a fall from grace. Then a dr said I had diabetes and to quit carbing it so much so I went back to meat eating. So I got screwed up both ways sometimes!!! Fortunately I found pcrm website and now have some support in this! It's hard though when you have been a meat eater practically your whole life and everyone around you is a meat eater!!! I am over joyed to have found Dr. Barnard's program!!! Just by exercising and becoming vegan you might be able to avoid diabetes!!! :-))))
Good Luck to you!

You may be genetically predisposed to diabetes. To be on the safe side you should follow a good healthy life style of exercise and diet and learn to recognize the early warning signs of diabetes so you are prepared if it happens. If it doesn't happen you will be much healthier than many people.
