Breast implant or Augmentation of the breast consists of insertion of a silicone bag (prosthesis) under the breast (submammary) orunder the breast and chest muscle (subpectoral) and then fillingthe bag with saline (salt water). This prosthesis expands thebreast area to give a fuller breast (increased cup size), givea better contour, and give more cleavage.

How is the incision made?

The incision (cut) may be placed at various locationssuch as: under the breast at the breast fold; periareolar whichis at the edge of the areola (brown area consisting of nippleand areola); within the areola; in the armpit (axillary); or inthe umbilical area.

The thinnest scar is usually in the areola. The umbilicalincision approach is used with an endoscope (tube with a lightfor visualization and placement of the breast implant).

Depending on the level of activity required, patients are generally able to return to work or school in approximately one week's time. Scars from a breast augmentation surgery will last six weeks or longer and usually begin to fade several months after surgery.

Complications

Local complications that can occur with breast implants include post-operative bleeding (hematoma), fluid collections (seroma), surgical site infection, breast pain, alterations in nipple sensation, interference with breast feeding, visible wrinkling, asymmetric appearance, wound dehiscence (with potential implant exposure), thinning of the breast tissue, and synmastia (disruption of the natural plane between breasts).

In the end, in my opinion , it is better to avoid implants unless you are in modeling or similar profession where it is required. -
