a cold sore is a version of herpes. Herpes Simplex 1 is what a cold sore is and about 80% of people have the virus in their blood. If it is on your gums it is most llikely a cold sore unless you were giving another person with herepes simplex 2 (genital herpes) oral sex. Oh but I just re read your question and you have never had oral sex so not to worry... Cold sores are common and some people get them more often then others they can be caused from stress and colds or they may just randomly appear. I attached a website that explains more about how they occur and how to treat and prevent them. Goodluck

i agree with all the above! i've had cold sores (herpes simplex 1) since i was a little girl and they are annoying til this day...one rule of thumb, neveer kiss anybody nor do oral when you have the cold sore in your mouth that is because theyre contagious..oh and don't ever get herpes 2 (that's herpes in your genital spread through intercourse). herpes 1 is just an annoyance and if you go to the doctor, they would not do much for you except tell you to buy over the counter pain cream. if you have herpes 2, then they'll prescribe you medications. if you have either herpes, it'll stay with you for life as there are no cures...but like i said, herpes 1 is no big deal as compared to herpes 2....good luck...

A cold sore IS herpes. They usually appear on the lips and are bubbly and crusty. If you have a white spot that looks like your tissue was scooped out and has a red border around it, that is a canker sore. They start out as a wound and the buggies in your mouth invade the area and cause the sore. It has to do with your immune system, so people tend to get them while they are sick with something else or nearing your period. Good luck.

Millions of people have the herpes virus that causes cold sores. It's really no big deal. Does your mom gt cold sores? It can be transmitted from mother to child in birth. It can lie dormant for years and then show up. Abreva will help the sore go away quicker. Nothing to be scared of.

Cold sores ARE herpes.

Cold sores almost always occur on the OUTSIDE of the mouth and on the outside of the lips. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and they are contagious.

Cancker sores are on the INSIDE of the mouth. They can occur on the inside of the lips, cheeks, gums, and tongue. They are NOT caused by the herpes simplex virus and are NOT contagious.

If you have a sore on the inside of your mouth, then it is most likely a canker sore and not herpes. Take care!

there are two types of herpes tha i know of the oral one and the genital one. the oral one seems to be your concern, it manifests as a cold sore and i don believe it attacks the gums. did you put something hot in your mouth? maybe its just a simple infecton of a small bruise.
