It does bare similar characteristics to cheese. It's normally spicy and I've never had it plain so... Anyway it's good, I like it.

Yep. There are several brands, but if you're vegan, you've got to watch out for casein, a dairy protein. This is true of many products marked as "non-dairy."
Follow Your Heart (available in most grocery stores) and Scheese (avialable at www.veganstore.com) are two brands of soy cheese that are vegan.
Tofu is bean curd, and is not considered "soy cheeze," as it has no flavor and picks up the flavors of foods its cooked with.

I am a former chef and have use many types for veggie mains and in appetizers for a veggie nacho and queso dip.
One thing to remember it is not like dairy based cheese, it has not got the same moisture or melting qualitys, what I do is lightly toss it with a bit of veg oil and seasoning to help with the melting and flavours to brown it on items.
