I feed my dogs and cats what the vet tells me to... that's his job to know much more than I do... I never asked, but I'm quite sure it does. As far as I know... their food isn't a risk for giving them heart disease... It better not at 50 bucks a bag.

Ours is a multi-species family & *most* of us-- 2 mice, 4 rats, 1 guinea pig & 2 humans-- are vegetarians.
Cats are obligate carnivores. When I first became vegetarian I had a beloved cat & have continued living with cats (most of our companion animals are rescues btw). After doing a *lot* of research & soul-searching I realized I'd either have to give up having cats in our home or compromise & let them continue to eat what they were designed to eat. We give our 4 cats premium organic food with 'human-grade' ingredients.

No, I don't feed my pets any animal based products. My birds are completely fine without them. (And in case you're wondering: Some bird food has dairy in it. Who in their right mind would feed birds cow milk???)

I wouldn't want to have a pet that eats meat.

My cat eats fish. My dogs eat a vegetarian diet (except when my hubby sneaks meat to them). I actually put my dog on vegetarian food because the vet recommended it for him (he was overweight). I do not force my vegetarian lifestyle on others (including my daughter).

Cats and dogs are carnivores and need animal protein for sustained health. their dietary systems are very different from humans that have the tooth structure of plant eaters and have turned to meat of=ver the years because of food availability, taste, and culture

My pet sheep are vegetarians, I tried to put my pet tiger on a vegetarian diet but she got real mad and started eating the sheep instead, so for the sake of Woolly, BaaBaa, & Sweatermaker, Stripes is back on a steady diet of meat. I miss Fuzzy. :-(
