I agree. He's way more interesting to watch and offers so much information about food. I learn a lot from him and actually retain it!

Alton Brown is one of the finest human beings on the planet. I love to cook but I also have an intense need to know the whys and hows of everything. Alton tells you about food from the molecules on up. All Emeril does is cook and yell at people. BAM - you suck!
I read cookbooks - yeah, I'm that kind of geek - and I have to say that "I'm Just Here for the Food" is one of the best I've ever read. It actually reads like a regular book and then has the recipes as well. There are several of them - check 'em out!

I love Alton! - His one show - good eats - is a great show because he shows all the science behind stuff. Plus he's goofy but a fabulous cook!
I use his and Emerils recipes both off of food network all the time and they both are consistently good! I just like Altons personality a little better!

I prefer Alton Brown too. Emeril (sp?) seems too stuck up.

I prefer Emeril. He makes interesting dishes, has live music and speical guests. You can't go wrong with that.
Like another poster said, Alton Brown speaks to his audience like they're toddlers. I don't want to be talked down to...I know how to cook. Then he runs off on these tangents that have nothing to do about the acutal dish. At times, it's like watching Bill Nye the Science Guy hosting a cook show. ICK.

Emeril for me. And while I like food science, he gets too involved with it and I forget whatever he actually cooked. At least Emeril cooks, Alton just makes up "funny" skits. I want someone who actually shows me the food instead of explaining it like I was 4 years old.

I like Alton Brown better for the same reasons that you do.
Emeril is a bit full of himself.

I agree he is so down to earth. Have you heard his little story of how he got into cuisine? I like Emeril but I agree he comes off a little arrogant, not as much as Bobby Flay though. At least Emeril is comical.
