I have quit smoking cigarettes smoking a pipe. It's healthier but it doesn't solve the problem completely. After smoking a pipe for a few weeks you can stop that too. It will be easier.

I also used Chantix. It's a one of a kind medication. It blocks the nicotine from binding to its receptors. Therefore lessening the with drawl effects. You start taking it and continue to smoke for one week. On day seven you stop cold turkey, so to speak. The medication helps so you don't crave. You will still get some but if you chew gum or occupy yourself its nothing you can not handle. Then after you stop smoking you continue to take the medication up to three months. It is expensive, $100.00 a month, but I only took it for four weeks and quite. I haven't smoked since February of this year. I highly recommend this medication, because of the way it stops you from smoking there are very little side effects. And you will notice the difference from the very first pill.... Good luck, I don't think I could have done it without this medication.

Hi dear, i don't want to be rude but im very sensible about smoking because a year ago a lost my mother for lung cancer.
Then a trying to concientize everybody about.
Looks like difficult to quit, i think the best is go to a group where everybody helps the others (like AA) if this doesn't work, try to take some ansiolitics and quit, maybe you replace for something not good but much better then smoking.
The third option and sorry if im rude, go to an hospital and see the cancer ward, try to see or talk with the lung cancer patients, see how they looks and how regreted they feel.
Is sad,but it's the reallity.
I wish you the best.
God luck!!!.

I smoked for over 15 years and I have found using the patch worked for me. What you do, instead of putting the patch on during the day and having cravings. You put the patch on before you got to bed. That way the nicotine will work into your blood stream while your sleeping. When you wake, you will have an urge to have a cigarette but you have to have will power. After the 3 day, you won't have a craving..trust me you will feel so much better after you quit...smells and tastes of foods will be a lot better. Good luck, you can do it! Live longer and enjoy life.

It is hard. I used Chantix and it helped a lot. You still have to want to quit smoking and know that you will have periods that a smoke sounds good, but it passes. Hang in there. My insurance wouldn't cover it and it cost about $100 a month. Well worth the cost.

i am a smoker but i did quit for 5 years ( stress made me wanna smoke again ) I quit cold turkey and put a full pack of smokes on me at all time unopened and told myself I could have one if I really needed too.that made be odd but it took the pressure off of being around cigarettes. Also everytime i had the urge to smoke I reminded myself my brain is just reminding me of a habit i used to do and ignored the thoughts. Its just like eating or watching your fav tv show, you have mental reminders :its time to smoke" You just have to reprogram the brain. I don't think its really about the urge.

I agree with Simmi. I used Chantix and stopped smoking. It has been about 6 months since I had my last cigarette. It may be expensive but it costs less than cigarettes.

"Quitting Smoking for Dummies" or any similar book will help you find the best method for quitting. I quit cold turkey, no nicotine patches or anything, and the book helped a lot. Good Luck.
