It is up to the Anaesthetist if he willl choose to anaethatis (can't spell tonight) you.
They make the ultimate descion.
If it's just a cough it will most likely be gone by Friday anyway. If not, if it is not accompanied by a fever or a snotty nose, he may very well just allow the surgery to go ahead.

Ideally you want to be relatively healthy with no respiratory (especially) conditions. Cough has many causes. and Most likely the anesthesiologist will refuse to put you under if there is bronchitis, or an ongoing respiratory viral illness. Normally you will get a physical exam before your surgeon makes the final decision of operating on you. Good question.

Better check with the doctor-wouldn't you hate to go through all the preparation and not get it done? He may want you to take a few antibiotics beforehand.
