YES. A cigarette usually has a filter, a joint does not. Pot smokers inhale unfiltered smoke and usually hold it in their lungs longer than cigarette smoke, allowing it to do more damage and get deeper into the lung tissue. Smoke is smoke, and all smoke contains carcinogens. The only thing you're avoiding by smoking marijuana is nicotine and possibly some of chemicals they use in tobacco processing. You may not be at any greater risk for lung cancer than a cigarette smoker, but you can still experience other negative health effects from the damage to your lungs.

Any smoke will damage your lungs. Try using a water pipe, or make brownies or tea. Hell, wash down a bud with coffee. Smoking gives you a faster effect, but it wears off sooner. Try eating the herb, you'll just be really mellow for a loooooong time. And no nasty resin coating your lungs that you have to hack up later.

I've been told that one joint contains not 5, but 10 times the amount of tar in one cigarette. This concentrated amount of tar must be capable of damaging the lungs.

It should be obvious & common knowledge.
MJ is not cut like tobacco, it's full strength.
Besides that, there are no filters.
But who's going to tell you, not the seller?
Heck, tobacco merchants didn't want you to know.
Buyer beware!

yes -- being an illegal and unregulated crop it can also be full of bacteria and cause respiratory infections or worse. it also can be full of chemicals from pesticides etc. most health advocates suggest you use a vaporizer so you are only taking in vapors and none of the carcinogens. you can get one on ebay for like 20 bucks.
