There's a big movement out there of farmers trying to claim that they treat their animals "humanely" so that people will feel less guilty about eating them. In truth, however, they all go to the same slaughterhouses. What's "humane" about murdering an animal simply because his or her death will bring you pleasure?

Raising cattle and sheep in the Main Industry here beside us retired folk
I watch my neighbor who has 20 acres and 25 head of sheep bust his fanny to lift stack hundred of bales of hay
time spent to load his flatbed truck and re-stack in his yard
then every two days or so have to load it again and drive around to dump it for the sheep to feed on
Although He sell most at auction I know he slaughters one or two a year I am sure he uses a 22 rifle and as I remember the procedure is to shoot at the base of the skull to sever the spinal cord and only the neck roast has some damage
the death is most instant unlike the religious ceremonies you hear where the jugulars are cut for the beast to bleed to death
under the misguidance that all the blood has left the meat
No one can convince anyone that when 100 cows must be slaughtered daily that it will be pertty but with all the complaints the best methodes are being used and the inspectors are there to judge the process and the quality.

quickly mass use of pesticides for decades now have been under scrutiny most are sprayed by plane that means the air born particles must not harm humans It must dissipate to a nutrial compound shortly
other pesticides are sprayed most directly on or under the palans and can not be used within certian number of day from harvest
The USDA inspectores review the accounting records of the suppliers and the farmers

There really is no "humane" about it--granted, there are farms where the animals are treated less cruelly, but when the time comes, they are still trucked long distances and killed in the same slaughter line as conventionally produced meats. There's really no way to "humanely" kill an animal.
And "free-range" is just a bunch of greenwashing. Unless you live near the farm and can see the conditions for yourself, there is absolutely no way to ensure the animals you consume and whose milk and eggs you consume are treated with any decency.

Yes there is. Many farms are now starting to be free range which means that they let the animals run free. But it is not 100% cruelty-free, no farm is acutally. No animal is treated 100% the right way an animal deserves to be treated. But if you want to buy free-range chicken or something of that sort, you can eat it knowing that that animal wasn't harmed nearly as much as factory farms. But your best bet would be to try out vegetarianism. It's amzing. Much healthier.

I get my meat from local farmers.
They call me and ask if I want a half or quarter of beef. Then they take the cattle to the butcher.
I get my meat from one animal. It has not been tortured. A half will last us at least a year in the freezer and what ever kind of meat I want that day, it is there ready to thaw out.
If you get your meat from a 4-H kid who raised it you can be sure it was raised with love. These kids put their heart and soul into raising these animals so they can get recognition at the fair.

As someone who lives on a dairy farm. I think I have a pretty good understanding on what's going on in farms. Cows are basically treated like kings. In the summertime, they graze on our pasture with plenty of room, but they still always stand around in a tight group in one spot. When it comes time to milk them they walk into a barn where they sit around in their stalls probably chatting in their cow dialect. When we are done milking we let them out into the cow yard(which is just a cement area), and they feed on silage and hay.
In the wintertime when it gets real cold(I live in Minnesota) however. They just stay in the barn. Where we slave away each long, cold winter and fall. Giving them massages while a construction crew works on a very large sauna. Okay maybe not, but we do work hard bedding their stalls with fresh straw, cleaning out the manure, and cleaning out and replacing the corn in their mangers. They only go outside in the winter when they are eating silage and hay.
finally cows that are treated well give milk not cows that are abused. Beef farms are pretty much the same thing. Cows are killed very humanly. Also farmers usually pay more attention to their animals than their personal needs.
ps cows would have it pretty rough in the wild, cause a larger animal like that would endure hours of pain as coyotes rip their flesh to pieces. Chickens aren't treated the best though, but if you think about it there are people out there being treated just as bad, if not worse, but the thing is the people being treated badly have one thing they don't, the knowledge or lack of knowledge of their fate. which is even more torturing

Because there are so many ways to think of killing as kind...
Face it, murder can't be not cruel. It's murder! Plus, with the huge agri-corps trying to cut costs with propoganda such as "free-range"... whatever.
NO. Teach by example; if you are not a coward, stand up for what you believe in.

goveg.com? Why dont you go to gomeat.com instead?
It doesnt matter what people do to animals. Its not like they have feelings. Plus, they deserve to be eaten. Its only natural.
Edit: you could at least spell my name right. Animals=food
Thats it. plain and simple. Who cares if they get hurt in the process? they anyways end up being eaten.
Mari t: sure. all I have to do is whip out some meat and scare him away with it. Now get off your mothers computer!
Mari T: Oooo I feel soooo intimidated. Spanish insults, eh? Go back to mexico.
