I do not have Herpes, This is just something I was wondering...
So, if someone has a cold sore, and someone unknowingly to the sore kisses them and develops a cold sore on their lip, does that neccesarily mean that it's Herpes?? Is it possible to catch a cold sore off of someone that does not have Herpes??? Stupid question I know but I was just wondering...

All cold sores ARE herpes. Cold sores are NOT a STD though. The chickenpox is also caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), but it's NOT a STD either.
The ONLY STD caused by the herpes simplex virus is genital herpes. Genital herpes can be caused by either herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1) or herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV2). Most of the people infected with genital herpes though are infected with HSV2.
And, just because someone has cold sores doesn't mean they also have genital herpes or the other way around. I have had genital herpes for 6+ years, but I have never had a cold sore in my life. It's estimated about 75 - 80% of the world has cold sores, while only 25% of the world has genital herpes.

There are different herpes viruses. Actually, chicken pox is a herpes virus, meaning that it's with you for life dormant in your body, unless it develops into shingles. Cold sores are a herpes virus, but not necessarily the dreaded Herpes Simplex Virus 1 that everyone thinks about. So, if someone has a cold sore, that doesn't necessarily mean that they have an STD.

I got diagnosed with herpes virus (type 2) about three yrs ago, when I was still attending college and had a mindless one-night stand. I know lots of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date other men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone who has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/GWv1I everything improved.
Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This system provided the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others by sharing this story.

Cold sores are caused by a herpes virus. People can be carriers for the virus and never get a cold sore.
Just because you get cold sores doesnt necessarily mean you have genital herpes. However if you give oral sex with an outbreak you can pass it that way.
Not a stupid question.....

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

Yes, if they have a cold sore on their lips and you kiss them and get a cold sore YOU HAVE HERPES. Cold sores are always caused by the herpes virus. It is possible to catch cold sores from someone who has no symptoms of having the herpes virus on their lips and no knowledge that they are a carrier because even when a sore is not present there is still a chance they are infectious. Many of the 80% of the populatio who have oral herpes (cold sores) do not know that they are infected.
If they have oral herpes, the odds that they have genital herpes are the same as for someone who does not have oral herpes. This is because herpes is a localised infection, ie if they have it orally that particular virus will just infect them orally, and they will not be able to transmit it genitally.
There are two viruses which can cause oral and genital herpes, type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is usually responsible for oral cold sores, but is increasingly responsible for genital herpes infections, causing between half and 75% of new genital herpes infections among certain groups.
Type 2 usually causes genital herpes, but 5%+ of infections are thought to be oral. It may be much more - it is impossible to say as oral herpes infections are not normally considered serious enough to be tested for type.
You generally have one virus in one location on your body and it then becomes extremely difficult to catch that same type again in another location, for example if you have type 1 on your mouth you are highly unlikely to catch type 1 on your genitals at a later date, as your body will have developed anitbodies to protect you against that type. However, you could still have a type 2 infection on your genitals which is completely unconnected to your oral hsv1 infection.
If you have no prior oral type 1 infection, you can easily catch type 1 genitally, especially by receiving oral sex from a partner that gets cold sores, even if they do not have a sore at the time they give you oral sex. The reason genital hsv-1 is getting so common, especially among young women, is because less people catch oral herpes type 1 when they are children now because people know how infectious it is so avoid kissing thier children when they have a cold sore, but this means that when they become sexually active and receive oral sex from someone with oral herpes, they are at a very high risk of developing genital herpes type 1 because they do not have a previous oral infection to provide them with anitbody protection.
If you have neither oral or genital herpes yourself, you are as likely to develop genital herpes from receiving oral sex from 8 out of 10 of the population (whether they have symptoms or not) as you are from a partner with genital herpes.
If you used condoms with the partner with genital herpes, you are at a much higher risk of catching genital herpes from the partner with 'acceptable' oral herpes than you are from the partner with genital herpes. If you have cold sores yourself and you give someone oral sex, you could give them genital herpes even when you have no symptoms.

Cold sores are caused by the virus known as herpes simplex type I (HSV-1). Which is not the same virus as genital herpes which is HSV-2.
