Pap smears ONLY detect abnormalities on the cervix which are usually caused by HPV. HPV can cause pre-cancerous cells on the cervix which can develop into cervical cancer.

A pap smear will NOT detect any STDs. STDs are detected by different tests. Depending on the STD, they can be tested by a blood sample, swab sample, urine sample, or a physical exam.

During a pap smear they do not check for all STDs. Some of them, like AIDs, u have to request a blood test.

Depends on your doctor. Mine tests for Trichomonas during a pap, and if the pap comes back abormal itself, they then test for HPV.

they check for abnormal cervical cells, but if you request an STD test they will perform one for you. just remember that STD's can go unnoticed for quite some time before symptoms occur, so have yourself check periodically.

They just check for cancer. You have to ask if you want them to check for other things because they require you blood for some of them.
