It is more likely this is due to your asthma. This has to be controlled with medicines on a regular basis if you are having symptoms and your chest x-ray showed air trapping. Getting pulmonary function tests (PFTs) is a good thing to do to make sure that this is, indeed, due to asthma and not to the effects from smoking in the past.

It basically means you have too much air trapped in your lungs. In older people, it could be a sign of something more serious. In younger people, it could be caused by a panic attack or hyperventilation. Since you said your case is mild, it's not that serious. If you have asthma issues, this is an effect of it.
