Do the traditional hot dogs and burgers -- always goes over well and is easy to prepare and have on trays for the later ones to grab a bite. Build the party around a "camp-out" theme with s'mores (yes - even teens like s'mores), canopy tents, small campfire, horseshoes and volleyball.

Hmm...I'm leaving tomorrow for the lake for the same atomosphere. Have fun!

How about having it at the beach or Pool. Beach parties are fun!

Or you can have it at your teens favorite place. Maybe a Skating ring or Ice palace.

Or just rent a hotel and have some of there close friends attend.

I would start off by deciding on a theme based on what the majority of people are into, or just decide on a theme period.
My son is into dancing (hip-hop, krump) so I threw him a hip hop themed dance party.. We had good dance music, krump session, krump contest, lots of finger food and drinks. We had a ball. Pick a theme that works for you and go with it. Think outside of the box.. do something out of the ordinary to make people remember it... Good luck..

If it's for girls my sister (age 16) just went to a "Tea Party" that she really enjoyed, they all went as people from "Pride and Predjudice/Jane Austen" and they had something like a traditional English tea with the little snacks and scones and things. If it is for girls and they're creative and smart types then it's a blast.

Why don't you do like a themed party like the 80's where everyone comes dressed like they're from the 80's and play 80's music, or do like a tropical themed party,
