I love Boca Burgers. I purposely overcook them the way you did to give the edges that crunchy texture. If you don't like it, cut back the cooking time a little. In the meantime, enjoy your compassionate, healthy, environmentally-friendly choice!

Well, you can't really 'make' your parents be supportive. It's up to them. There are three million vegans in Taiwan alone. Must be many millions more in China, India, Isreal... it's older than history. Humans don't need dairy, that's obvious as we are mammals. And we don't need flesh -- we're not even designed for it's consumption. She's the one creating the strain, not you. What would happen if your doctor said you were diabetic and suddenly your whole diet changed -- I'm sure she'd have no problem adjusting her cooking methods for you, or making separate dishes for you. What if you had food allergies? What if the fact that you were vegetarian was out of your control -- that is was something your doctor said you must do for health reasons? What then? Your mother would have absolutely no problem what so ever. Buuuuut, since it is your 'choice' then that makes a big difference, doesn't it? Uhuh. It's psychology 101. Just imagine this situation: you're at a party, someone offers you some meat, and you decline and say no thanks. When they ask, you say that you just don't feel like it, or perhaps you don't like the taste of meat. Okay, everyone's cool with that. But the moment you say the word "vegetarian" or "vegan" then suddenly it becomes a big topic of discussion and before you know it, people are actually bugging you to try some anyway, "Come on, it won't kill you, it tastes good." bla bla bla and on and on they go. If you said you were allergic to it, then that'd be alright with everyone. Sure, you can try to talk to your mother, try to educate her, give her some library books on the subject, reassure her, and bla bla bla, but you know what? -- your mother has her own bloody library card, she can educate herself, she probably already knows that being vegetarian is fine as far as your health is concerned etc, so why on earth is she making a big deal out of this? Hm? Why would parents turn on their children like this? It happens again and again and again... The simple answer is that you are not following the herd. Again psychology 101. Anyone that acts different, looks different, does things differently, they are to be either brought back into the herd, or kicked out, beaten up, made an outcast. Doesn't matter if you are family or not. It's very deep down basic genetic instruction. Rational thought and intelligence can overcome this. Also, when it comes to vegetarianism, it has to do with food. Food is something your parents have been providing you since you were born. And now you are saying that the food they've been feeding you all your life is no longer good enough for you. Not only that, but that the food they were feeding you is also bad for the animals, and bad for the environment, etc. etc. Sure, for you it's just a personal choice; a lifestyle change. But for parents (who are just everyday regular unthinking people following the herd) you are going against them, you are creating conflict, you are insulting them, you are trying to burst their bubble of ignorance (they do not want to admit to the effects their food choices has on health, animals, environment, etc.). So, no matter what she does or says, stick to rational thought and intelligence, and don't let her get you emotional, and don't let her push your buttons. Think rationally, and look at her behaviour and study her, and see her for what she is, and see her word and actions for what they are.

You over cooked it. It should be pretty much the same as a normal hamburger. It also gets crunchy if you dont spray the pan enough, you have to a lot and then spray it again when you flip it. Its only supposed to cook 4-5 min on each side.

Boca Burgers taste really great on the grill, but only 5 minutes or less.
When I put it in the Microwave, I put it on for 25 seconds, flip it, and put it in for another 25 seconds, but even less might be sufficient.
It's delicious.

You over cooked it. It should be about the same constistancy as beef. About the same. If its hard it won't hurt you but it can taste so much better if you cook it less. My first one was the same way. Don't worry.
