I'm answering this from Botswana using a small solar panel(150 USD), and satellite internet. The small panel is enough to power 5 energy saving bulbs, laptop, and charge cell phone for 5 or so hours per day (We do have cellphones in Africa). Its used small scale everywhere i work in A. but like the rest of the world very few big projects. Capital outlay, and storing the energy are challenges. The 12 V lead/acid battery I'm using is not a good answer for big projects, not green either

Actually, it is beginning to be used in Africa to feed the poor. A solar powered stove has been invented that utilizes the sun during the peak sunlight hours.
The stove is a very inexpensive kit, and is completely solar powered, so that means people using it can have at least one hot cooked meal a day without using any natural resources, like wood and the energy source is completely renewable.
I saw the program on TV recently but can't remember where. I believe it was on the National Geographic Channel or Discovery Science Channel.
The stoves are being used in the refuge camps right now to start with.
I was personally thrilled to see the simplicity of the item, the cost, and the fact of natural resources not being depleted ,as well as how many are being provided for the people to cook food.

Africa is very poor. If there is no money or power in it the US nor any other country is going to help. Look at the USA. The government nor big business can find a way to keep the money coming in after the sale like they can with oil. Once the solar is installed there is no more money in it for big business. Solar will cost 20,000 to 40,000 to install but in the life time of a solar electric system the big boys could rent you electric and total over 80,000. So they would loose 40,000 to 60,000 in the end by supporting it. The customer would be the big winner.

So to answer you question, Aftica don't use solar power because of greed.

The same reason no other country uses very much. It is a very costly and unreliable form of energy. In the US, it is about 5 times normal grid power. It is unreliable because it doesn't work all the time.

african leaders and governments do not think that much about their people.
african countries are rich countries, more than european or american ones. they have the most expensive and rare minerals, jewels, .....
in facts they are the richest countries of the world.
the problem is , that their governers steal the money for themselves and their families.
