HPV causes an overgrowth of cells called dysplasia or Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN).

Our Pap smear shows abnormal cell changes...there is a chance that a single Pap test may miss abnormal...but the over abundance of cell that cancer would cause would not be miss with your Pap smear and the visual exam that your doctor does during your pelvic exam.

It is a persistent virus that could cause cancers of the cervix, vulva, and vaginal or anal canal. You can have HPV and never show any abnormal cell changes, your doctor could not miss cervical cancer.

Absolutely. This is why it is SO important for women to get their annual pap smears. A pap smear can detect any abnormalities on the cervix which can lead to cervical cancer.

Yes, I am one such person finding out about it just this year. Treatment was ok, but the doctors believe that they caught it early and it had not manifested to Invasive Cancer. Regular paps are key! Good luck and best wishes!
