I haven't have Jello in many years becasue I found out that gelatin is made from extracting and boiling animal hides, skins, bones, and tissue after alkali or acid pretreatment. I'm not a vegetarian, I just don't like the thought of eating gelatin.

THanks Katy K for that info. I don't eat those things you mentioned except for Frosted Mini Wheats, and I will still eat that :)

HAIN makes a animal free Gelatin. Some regular gorcery stores have it & (bigger) health food stores have it.
Here is a place to order on line.

Carageenan and agar-agar, are gelatines made from seaweeds.
We also use gulaman, or ceylon moss, which is made from a vine.
Here in Asia, they use these gelatines for cold drinks and deserts because they have a mild and more delicate texture, but do not break up as easily.
Let me give you a very delicious and refreshing recipe for a Filipino drink using young coconut juice (NOT coconut milk):
2/3 cup white sugar
2 tbsp. powdered gelatin
1 cup cold buko ( young coconut ) juice
1/2 cup lychee juice
1/2 cup canned lychees, quartered
1-1/2 cups buko meat, scraped int o1 inch pieces
2 cups buko juice (buko or young coconut can be found in Asian stores, esp. Filipino and Thai)
3 drops red food coloring ( optional )
1 cup whipping cream, chilled
In a small saucepan, combine sugar, gulaman, 1 cp buko juice and lychee juice. Let gulaman expand.
Over low fire, stir mixture constant ly until sugar and gulaman dissolve. Pour into an 8 inch square serving dish. Remove from fire.
Stir in lychees, buko meat and 2 cups buko juice, then refrigrirate to set. Mix in red food coloring if desired.
In a small mixing bowl, whip cream with a fork or electric mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes. Spread cread on top of set gulaman mixture.
You can get these at any Asian, more so in Filipino stores around the world.

there are a lot of gelatin alternatives that pretty much everybody else just told you about. but just FYI, there's a lot of stuff you wouldn't expect that has gelatin in it. marshmallows, most frostings, a lot of yogurts, altoids, anything with frosting on it like pop tarts, frosted mini wheats, etc... and some jellys and jams. thought you might want to know that.

I think there are actually a wide-range of different ones. You should try browsing your market or health food store. Although, my friend has seen vegan/vegetarian gummy bears and she said it was really expensive. Good luck finding one though. =] For me I just stick with not eating it.
Try this search on google.

Try KoJel. It is a kosher product with no animal stuff in it. It gets its gelling action from a seaweed extract (carragenan I think it is called).
