he is not the bossy type and he is really cool and down to earth. he is also Pakastani if that makes a difference.

Anything from a book, to gif certificates to a basket of stuff lol. This is prolly the hardest decision of your life it seems, but really truly isn't, what does he do for fun on the weekends, do you know. Other then that its hard cause yeah you don't want something to personal or something that would embrass you and make you look cheap.
If you have time and your company has pictures of records, create a scrapbook if your into that kind of stuff.

Oh dear it's always SO hard to think of gifts...
I know I'd enjoy some kind of leaning-towards-exotic plant. Not chopped off flower stems, but something in a clay pot with cool leaves. It would make the house look a lot nicer. Then again I'm sure there's people who would think that was a bad idea.

Your boss is making 30 what? I'd tell him to stop making the 30 whatever they are and you could buy them for him. Alternatively, get him a telephone card so he can call the UK and pretend to be an Indian selling Mobile Phones LOL

I like the gift certificate idea. It's hard to pick a tie or cologne for someone else. Wherever I've worked, we've all chipped in on one big gift, so no one person has a big expense.

A leather binder,pen set,letter opener,or even a gift card from his favorite place.If you know he likes to eat at a certain place get one there.If he is like other people a good pen set does the deed...

If you know him well, and you know is favourite sport you could get together with your co-workers and buy him a pass or a ticket to an event . Or if you know what is favourite hobby is, get him a gift certificate.

gift certificates are nice and easy...but i like to surprise people and show them that i thought of them....when i purchased a gift...get to know him...and ask questions without giving away the fact that a party is being thrown for him....have fun with it
