Meg was a healthy cat a week ago, now she is dead. We came home and found Meg with breathing problems and clear fluid coming from the mouth. the vet said it may be down to poisoning. Meg had to be put to sleep as the vet was unable to help. does anyone know what poison could kill a cat that wasn't ray poison as apparently this causes internal bleeding and Meg didn't have that.

There are a whole host of poisons that can kill a cat. If it's been deliberately poisoned, it's likely to be industrial chemicals, or something used in gardening, like a pesticide. The only way that it can be confirmed is by having an autopsy done on the cat. Your vet may be able to at least do a test for toxins, if the body of the cat is still accessable. Other than that, your guess is as good as anyone's really.
I am sorry about the death of your cat though - you must be very distressed.

Could be due to Meg eating an animal that had been poisoned like a bird or mouse

* Sodium fluoroacetate, "1080." insecticide.

* Carbon Monoxide gives rise to fluid in the lungs and then breathing difficulties, as does smoke inhalation.

* Asthma, yes asthma in cats can be triggered due to the dust in cat litter and can kill.

* Human foods include Avocado, alcohol, Apricot, cherry, peach pits, almond nuts and apple seeds. All these will give rise to symptoms you describe as well as others.

Hope this gives you the information you crave, although it cannot bring back your cat. I am so sorry about her, bless her.

I'm afraid that I have no idea what has killed your lovely cat but I would just like to take this opportunity to say that I am so sorry you have lost Meg. I know what it is like to lose a cat, and I am thinking of you and hope that you are all ok. Peace and love to you all.

It sounds very much like antifreeze poisioning.

I lost a momma cat and 5 kittens due to this a year ago.

maybe antifreeze.
In the country, people use to put out antifreeze to kill coyotes.
Would cause them to have internal bleeding and seizures.

It is quite common for cats to attack and swallow wasps, or bees which can sting thier throats and cause poison like symptoms, and in some cases prove fatal.

Slug pellets? Some kind of garden weedkiller spread around (this could be neighbours if she was an outside cat).
