Philosophy.

Zen is the art of practicing meditation in everything you do and existing solely in a mental space -- Zen is thus a unique blend of the philosophies and idiosyncrasies of three different cultures. It is a way of life which is typically Japanese, and yet it reflects the mysticism of India, the Taoists' love of naturalness and spontaneity and the thorough pragmatism of the Confucian mind.

This Buddhist school was established in China, and from there it spread to Japan, Korea and Vietnam. The original Chinese name means meditation, and is pronounced as "chan" in Mandarin and "sim" in Cantonese. Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese use Chinese characters, but they pronounce them differently.
