Most people with HPV have no signs or symptoms. That is why it is one of the most common STDs out there. Since most people don't show any signs of the virus they are unaware they even have it and they end up spreading it around to others unknowingly.

As long as you stay on top of your yearly pap smears you should be just fine! If you have had an abnormal pap smear then you should be going about every 3 or 4 months. Pap smears are the best thing a woman with HPV can get to detect any abnormalities on the cervix, which can eventually turn into cervical cancer. Don't be scared though! Developing cervical cancer is actually kind of rare. It's estimated about 1% of women with HPV will actually go on to develop cervical cancer. However, it was estimated about 10,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer last year in the US alone, and about 4,000 of those women will eventually die from it. So, cervical cancer shouldn't be taken lightly!

Stay on top of your pap smears! Good luck!

Once you're diagnosed with HPV you'll need to see your gyn doctor every 4-6 months until you have 3 normal paps in a row. Taking care of your overall health, eating right, getting good sleep, etc. can also help your body fight off this virus. Not following up with your check ups, can result in the virus manifesting into cervical cancer. So be vigilant and be safe....you're worth it! =)

p.s. Get the HPV vaccine....there are 100 different strands of HPV so getting the vaccine after being diagnosed is still a good idea! =)

I don't have it but I know the cause and information. First they only test if they get an abnormal pap from the lab on someone. They use vinegar and it tells them the virus is present. It is so prevalent that they don't tell everyone about it. It causes cervical cancer in women and today about 7 out of10 women have had it or will have it. They treat it when you show up with cervical cancer. They treat by removing the part of your cervix or by freezing it so it doesn't spread. So there aren't any symptoms. Just always get the yearly pap done....at the health department or wherever. Just get it done. That is the preventive and your best bet for not having it turn into cancer. OK? Google it and educate yourself on it.

hpv is the most common std today and it very often goes undetected. do you have to be scared? no - do you have to be vigilant about your yearly paps? YES! by having a pap every year you can detect if the hpv is causing changes in your cervical cells that can lead to cancer. so, stay on top of it!!! also, you need to have protected sex everytime! if not, you can infect your partner, and males are most times asymptomatic! don't be scared, just be responsible and you will be fine! best of luck!

No. don't be scared. I had it. You need a pap swaer to find out what level of abnormal cells you have. mild, moderate, severe. you will need to get paps every 6 months to monitor this. if your abnormal cell levels are too high, they will do a biopsy- this does not hurt. if they find this threatening, you will either get they abnormal spots removed via laser, cryogenics(freeze off), or cut out. hpv, is a virus that causes your cells to mutate- these are precancerious. if its really bad it will do one of two things- turn into genital warts (benign)- which can be lazered off. or cervical cancer. alot of people have hpv, and it your young you shouldn't worry to much. but you do need to go to your gyno to make sure that it doesnt worsen.
