Asked and answered. That question is a variant of one of the oldest justifications for killing and eating animals.
By the way, for every pound of animals' flesh you eat, that's roughly 15 pounds of plant protein who "suffer horrible death."

It's not the killing of animals that's the problem. It's the abuse all their lives. I eat plants but I don't mis-treat them.
There was a question here today: "Why are vegetarians here rude to non-veggers?"
What a joke.
Doloredicuore, you are dispicable. That's not rude, that's a fact.

I guess the veggie lovers would have to find a reason to believe they were somehow worthy of living even if the poor plants had to suffer as a result... There might be a few who'd go Gandhi just as a protest to the whole business, but I'd lay money that they'd get over it before very long...

Science has already proven that plants can sense pain.
It's well documnented in the book "The secret life of plants" by chris byrd.
You can get the book here: http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Life-Plants-Peter-Tompkins/dp/0060915870
Plants are not robots they do have life, they are plant life!! Only fruitarians can claim 100% that they are consumers of foods that have not been taken from a life that has been killed.

No. They would still eat them. Just like meat eaters eat animals that suffer horrible deaths. It's how we survive.

nope... I started this way of life based on health... to each his own... but for me, that's why I started. If it came to what you said.... then so be it... I'm still not going to have clogged arteries... it's really a stupid question if you take a minute to look at it from that perspective.
