Meat is high in fat and calories, so cutting it out of your diet should help you lose some weight.
BUT... it all depends on what you continue TO EAT. If you eat tons of refined bread, cheese, pizza, junk food, eggs, veggie meats, then you won't really lose that much. I know. I was a 206 lb vegetarian (5'3" female).
If you go from a meat-eating diet to a diet of whole grains, plenty of fruits and vegetables, legumes, nuts.. then you should see some weight loss.
Try to eat your lightest meal for supper. Eatling less in the evening will help ALOT with weight loss. (Again, I know.. I was 206.. now, a year later, I'm 136).

It's not a guarantee. I could give you a dozen or more examples of people who decided to go veg here at school and ended up gaining weight, thanks in part to our lovely dining options. But if you cut out the junk food, add a little exercise and watch your portions you should see some weight loss. I've also noticed that most people tend to get a smaller waist after becoming vegetarian, even if they don't lose any pounds.

Being vegetarian is no guarantee of losing weight, but if you eat a balanced diet, cut back on the junk food, and exercise, you should lose some weight.

No, but human health is not all about weight. It's about nutrition and exercise. Active people who carry a little extra fat are generally far more healthy than skinny couch potatoes. Lose the weight consciousness. Eat fresh natural foods and stay active. That's all that matters.

Vegetarian diet has the potential to make one lose weight unless he/she eats a lot of processed caloric foods. The solution is to eat unprocessed whole natural foods. Vegetables, fruits, pulses are all low in calories and rich in nutrient. So eating low calorie foods only does not suffice. If you lack essential nutrients, your organism reacts by accumulating fat in the body even if you eat a little. So eat low caloric but nutrient dense foods like wholegrain, fruits, vegetables, pulses, nuts (snacks), low fat dairy, etc. But if you feel you exaggerated a bit on calorie do some moderate exercise like brisk walk and the problem will be solved.

No..it does not assure that you will lose weight. Losing weight is about burning more calories than you consume.

Like any diet you choose to go on, it depends what you eat and how much of it
eating more calories then you burn will make you gain weight, no matter if those calories are meat based or not
