Web worms (tent worms) on a horse apple tree with young, ugly-looking 'fruit'. It's also known as a bois d'arc tree. The trees can grow to 40 feet in height.
It depends on what part of the country you live in and what kind of trees can grow there. Web worms used to grow on our pecan tree and we would blast them out with the water hose and a high pressure nozzle. It's easier than spraying chemicals all over your yard and the neighbors yard.

I don't know the kind of fruit but do know the insect is Web worm, which attacks fruit and nut trees. The infected area needs to be pruned away or the worms will be back again in the same tree and spread to other fruit and nut trees. If you can get a permit and it is safe to do so, we burn them out while the leaves are still green. You can also hire an Aorist to come cut out the affected spots. I also agree that insecticides shouldn't be used because they get into soil and wildlife population.

Honey, I am so sorry! I know how you feel. I hate spiders, and when I was putting the key in to open the door to the house, I saw this nasty big spider crawl out from between the door and the wall! I freaked out! I had a magazine in my hands, so I tried to swat it. After that, I was scared to leave the house, touch the door knob, or even enter again! That was a few weeks ago, and I think I have gotten over it. I sure do hate spiders, probably the way you hate worms! I really have no idea what those worms are. I am thinking larva perhaps....but yes, you should definitely keep a clean room! I think I am going to have to clean my house today! I always fear spiders coming in from the chimney!!
