The number one cause of high blood pressure = being overweight. Try to maintain normal weight.
Changing your diet [ low salt ], exercising, less stress all help, but losing weight can actually reduce your need for medication, or eliminate the need for meds entirely. [ only as directed by doctor, though! ]

Being able to relax and avoid stress. Strees is a major cause of high blood pressure. People you live with need to be very sensitive about this, or you need to try to be able to just not care, and ignore anything they say or do. Anything that raises your pulse when not exercising is probably also raising your blood pressure. That includes exciting movies.
High antioxidant foods help keep more cholesterol from increasing blockages. Fruits, green tea, small amounts of nuts.
Moderate paced exercise for 30-40 minutes is very good for you.
As mentioned, less salt in the diet, which causes you to retain more water. At the same, don't let yourself get dehydrated, that will thicken the blood slightly and increase blood pressure.
Laughter is excellent.
Foods that relax your blood vessels, such as blueberries and pomegranate juice. I've had a glass of a mix of these knock it down 20 points in an hour.
Relaxing calm music is good, too.

How do you know it's elevated? Have you been checking it yourself with a monitor at home or one at a local pharmacy? How long has it been elevated? Have you seen a doctor?
So much info is needed before anyone is diagnosed with high blood pressure. If you haven't seen a doctor, do so quickly. Hypertension is called the "silent killer." That's because it can cause strokes which can disable you badly or kill you.
Tonight, if you know it's elevated and it has been for awhile and if you haven't been formally diagnosed and if you feel badly in any way, particularly if you have a headache, you need to take yourself to the nearest ER, like right NOW. Makes no difference what your age, etc. Anyone can have it.
ER docs can give you medication to bring it down quickly. Don't take chances, it's too serious.

How high is it? is the systolic or diastolic pressure high? You really can only do one thing that might help a little and that's to cut out salt and smoking completely. Other than that- you need hypertensive medication to make your blood pressure stabilized and low.........see your doc......and good luck

Well, I don't mean to give a trivial answer, but see your doctor. There may be relatively simple interventions that can help, but you may need medication to lower BP.
