Isn't fish meat as well? most vegetarians don't eat other meat because they feel bad the death the animal has to endure.

But doesn't the fish have to be gutted, and killed as well?

How is eating fish different from eating beef or pork or any other kind of meat?

And please don't say " Its very healthy for you" other wise I'm gonna think most vegetarians are quite hypocritical

the people you are talking about are not vegetarians, its simple

Unfortunately, they are blind to all the evidence and definitions because their need to have a label is too strong.

Please do not confuse vegetarians with people who call themselves vegetarians. I know you can't tell whos' who. But its not vegetarians fault - we tell them enough times but they don't listen

And there is no such thing as a semi/demi/partly/techical or pescavegetarians....there is jsut one word, no corruptions - "Vegetarian"

Just look at the thumb down the fishy people get above.

And mnybe see what vegetarians think of the subject at:

I would give the 10 points to the first answer, there is no need to complicate this any further.

The only reason I searched for this topic is because it has become very irritating from all the places I've read/heard/visited from people calling themselves vegetarian when they still eat fish (and some even eat chicken and call themselves vegetarian). This irritates me to no end. If you do a Google search for the definition of the word "vegetarian" you'd get this.

"a person who does not eat meat, and sometimes other animal products, especially for moral, religious, or health reasons."

The definition of vegetarianism clearly states someone who claimed to be a vegetarian does not eat meat, however fish is meat but somehow they can't get it through their thick skull. Perhaps it's an ego boost because they are weak minded and can't quite stop eating meats so they come up with this false belief so they can feel good about themselves. Or perhaps they are not aware of the definition of the word vegetarian (a light way of saying their intelligent level is not up to par. I could have used harsher words).

Anyway, I'm just here to voice my opinion and put a stop to this madness. If you eat meat of any kind whether it's land, sea or air, you are eating an animal and it's meat! Therefore you are not a vegetarian and please stop calling yourself that to make you feel better! To feel better about yourself you must be a true vegetarian and not eat any meat from any animal! There, I've said what was needed to be said.

I was a vegetarian for about three years and found out a lot about it. There is a wide range of vegetarians with many different reasons for being one. Some it is cause they don't want to hurt animals, some it is health reasons, some religious and so on. The range for vegetarians goes from vegans who generally do not eat any animals products including honey and eggs to those who eat anything but red meat.

Well, I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian. And don't eat fish. My mom keeps trying to get me to eat seafood and fish, but I keep telling her no. She says that fish is healthy for you. But it's really just full of mercury and other toxins. However, it is better for you than other kinds of meat.

Fish have feeling too. haha. Well they at least have a central nervous system so they can feel pain. And all of us veg's don't want any living creature to endure and feel pain. If we eat fish, we're causing them pain when they die, so we're not true to our vegetarian selves.

I completely agree with you when you say that fish is meat. It's really not any more different from a cow than we humans are. The whole point of vegetarianism is to give up meat, and fish is included in the meat group.

Back to my mom telling me to eat fish. Fish does have protein. And Omega-3 fatty acids. However, it's so easy to get protein as a vegetarian. Pretty much any food has some in it. Beans are good. I like tofu and we all know that's full of protein. Nuts are also good. It is harder to get Omega-3 fatty acids, but I usually get them from flax seed oil. So basically, it's obvious that fish is not necessary to a diet.

People that eat fish but no other meat cannot call themselves vegetarians. Technically they are pescavegetarians, but that is not a true vegetarian. It annoys me when people call themselves vegetarians who still eat fish. I'm just like, fish can feel pain too!!! Vegetarians aren't supposed to eat anything with a face, and fish have a face!!! Anyway, hope this helps your arguement!!!

I can see where you have become confused. There are many people that eat fish and call themselves vegetarians, however if they are eating fish then they are not vegetarian. Long and the short of it, real vegetarians do not eat fish, or any other meat for that matter.

Vegetarians don't eat fish. Yes..there are people who eat fish and call themselves vegetarian but they obviously aren't. I mean I can say I own 5 cars and a mansion but that does not make it true.

They don't. Fish are indeed 'meat' and real vegetarians dont eat meat.

Its not really that good for you actually, fish can have excess levels of mercury and nuts and seeds are a far superior source of essential fatty acids.

Most vegetarians don't eat fish, but some do. Those that do aren't true vegetarians.

Vegetarians do NOT eat fish. Anyone who eats fish is not a vegetarian by definition, regardless of whether they call themselves that.

Many vegetarians don't eat fish. And the ones that do are probably not the ones that are doing it for moral reasons. There are many other reasons for being vegetarian besides animal rights.
