yes it's true a lot of animals are killed each year for food and yes a lot of times it'd not done in a "humane"way, but at least we don't eat live carrots, just cause you can't hear them scream or see them cry doesn't make them any different than an animal.food is food if you don't like it don't eat it, Keep your personal choice personal.besides most vegans i know still drink milk and eat eggs or food that has been fried in animal fat.

Ironic that you are complaining about vegetarians(how they wont leave YOU alone) in the vegetarian section. Also vegetarians do not live on carrots(what are you 12).

Not the plant argument again... all I'm going to say is maybe you should wait until 7th grade biology begins in a few weeks(when school starts), I'm sure you will go over how plants do not feel pain because of their lack of a nervous system.

To add, last time I checked I lived in a free country. My personal beliefs are kept personal, but it is my right to be able to discuss what I believe if I so choose, the same as you are able to say "I enjoyed my hamburger last night" I can say "No, I do not eat meat"

"besides most vegans i know still drink milk and eat eggs or food that has been fried in animal fat."
I always laugh at this, I have been vegetarian for years and only know one other person who is vegan. Meat eaters seem to know so many vegetarians, while most vegetarians can count on one had how many they know. I have to go on message boards to speak with other people about vegetarian issues.

What you want to eat is your own business, I agree. Some vegetarians can be somewhat over-zealous when it comes to their beliefs. Some think they're better than others just because they don't eat a certain thing. I don't like either of those. I don't believe in imposing my beliefs or choices on others. I'm a vegetarian (for health reasons) so I don't agree that killing animals for food is wrong. However sometimes I wish they wouldn't keep animals in crowded spaces and pumped full of drugs that are bad for people to ingest. Most of these farms also contribute to pollution, due to the crazy amount of excrement they have to dump somewhere. There are many questionable practices within the industry and dangerous working conditions. Some people feel strongly about this and I guess the only way they fight it is by protesting, not eating meat that comes from these places.

Sounds like the vegans you know are either confused/ignorant or hypocrites. Maybe you should point out what they do. If they eat/drink eggs/milk then they're not vegans, they're vegetarians. If they eat foods fried in animal fat willingly and knowingly, then they're not really vegetarians! lol

Well, both sides can be pretty annoying on that issue. Plenty of meat eaters come here on the vegetarian/vegan section of YA just to be annoying.

Actually, the fact that a carrot can't scream makes them very different than an animal. It doesn't have a brain, a heart, etc.; very different indeed. It's a lot harder to relate to a plant, and I can't suck nutrients out of the soil and the air, so I'm going to eat plants and not animals.

I don't eat food that's been fried in animal fat. I don't complain about meat eaters as long they don't pretend to be experts in nutrition.

If someone criticises you for your choices just tell them "we all have our own free will" and leave it at that. That's what I do.

Animals eat plants. (Must resist urge to say "duh")
Non-human animals probably eat more vegetables than most vegetarians.
Plants are different from animals. Have you heard of anything called the "five kingdoms"? Scientists have categorized all living things into five main groups: Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plants, and Animals. That means on a cellular level, plants are different from animals. The important thing to know? Most animals have a central nervous system and a brain; that allows us to feel pain. We know for certain that animals feel pain. The only proof you have that plants feel pain and suffer is your opinion.
I sincerely doubt you know ANY vegans. Obviously the people you are mentioning don't exist, or are misguidedly calling themselves vegans when really they are lacto-ovo junk food vegetarians.
I am vegan. Aside from a few mistakes I made starting out, I have not eaten meat or eggs or milk knowingly for almost a year. I make sure I know where my food is coming from, and how it is made. It is not that hard. I will never eat animals or animal products again, and I know this because I am dedicated to the animals you wish you had in your mouth.
If you choose to eat animals, and are offended by the things we say, do not go on the Vegetarian & Vegan board. Do not post your trollish opinions and carnist lies. Keep them to yourself. Leave us alone; you will be content in your ignorance and we will be one troll less.

Because we have to deal with idiotic crap meatards are spewing in the Vegetarians and Vegans section. If you "Go Meat" anti-vegan jerks will just leave and allow people who are genuinely curious and want edification, we might be a bit nicer.

And I will not touch milk, eggs, or foods fried in animal fat, and nor do any of the vegans I know, so you're talking out your tuchus.

By the way, there's no such thing as killing "humanely."

I'm sorry about your personal experiences with vegetarians, but I know many (including myself!) that are not like that. Some meat eaters cannot keep their personal preference to themselves either, but it wouldn't be fair to say that all meat eaters "bioch" about vegetarians.

I'm a carnivore, I couldn't care less about what people eat, unless they start telling me about how my food selection is wrong. I think both sides need to just eat what they want and stop trying to convince eachother that the other side is unhealthy, inhumane, or whatever.

The short answer is no they dont.

in reality some do and some dont.

you have just decided to lump them all together regardless of whether they do or not.

i could care less if you eat meat or not. really, could care less.

and besides your 'vegan' friends are not vegans.

It's a two way street. If meat eaters weren't constantly telling us we were 'killing carrots" and shoving their gross hamburgers in our faces- and perhaps even respecting that we make our choice NOT to eat it the same way they made the choice TO eat it, then perhaps we wouldn't need to get defensive when someone sat their telling us our choices were stupid.

But meat eaters DO do this, so we respond back.

Live and let live- then it won't be a problem. Why do meat eaters even are if someone else chooses to not eat meat? As my Dad always says "Oh well, more steak for me if you don't eat it". I don't care that he's is eating a cow because that is what he chooses to eat. Now if he were to start telling me such things as my carrots are screaming, well he would get it right back...

Wow...you really are a hypocrite. Also FYI unlike Animals, plants do not have a central nerv. system which means they cannot feel. Obviously those friends of yours are not true vegans then.
