It's for my sister's 16th birthday.
It's a SURPRISE party.

NOT a "hollywood" theme or anything like that.

Thanks.

How about a fire and ice party.....
decorations can be all in white (snow flakes, clear and inside a smaller red balloon and white balloons also and a centerpiece in red (could be a torch or a bunch of red flowers... you decide)...
since it is a surprise party make a fake invitation for the day of the party with instructions of a dress code ( she has to come dressed in red, while all of the real guests will be coming in black or white or all in white)..
you can explore that idea if you want... have fun!!!

If I were 16 again ( 100 years ago ) I would love a totally grown up party. Passed hors d oeuvers, White and red grape juice served in wine glasses. A sit down dinner served to my friends and me and a spectacular dessert ( maybe something flaming ) Have someone snapping candid shots all night. She could print out the photos to include in her thank you cards. Make sure the guests take home a special little gift to remember the party. The Dollar tree has some really pretty frames. You have to somehow let the guests know it will be a " dress up party " so they will come dressed appropriately. PS. don't forget the centerpieces.

A cool idea that I've heard people do for parties is everyone who attends the party has to dress up in a costume - what they dress up as has to start with the first letter of that person's name... example: Matt dresses up as a Magician

It's a pretty cool idea!

Or, you could consider doing a luau theme if you have a swimming pool, (Hawaiian, beach theme). Since it's summer, that would be appropriate =)
You could invite all of her friends and have them all dress up in beachy-Hawaiian type apparel/swim suits... prepare some pool-side foods and drinks, that would be a great time!

I think sweet sixteen parties are awesome, and you definately need a good theme.

Some good themes are:
Army
Under the Sea
Beach
Cruise Around the world.

For any other suggestions, check out my Super Sweet 16 on MTV. You don't have to go all out like they do, but the theme ideas are awesome

How about something like a fun era theme. Like the 60's or 70's. Or you can do a Hawaiian luau type of party.

Costume Party-That would be fun. Everyone Dressing up in a costume.

I've decided to get a local band to play for my daughter's sweet 16. I'm guessing they'll do it for cheap, and it'll be a lot of fun.
