Getting rennet from calf's stomachs is expensive. Rennet is now produced from genetically engineered bacteria. Most cheese uses the cheaper rennet, or other enzymes.
Here's a link with info on brand names that are suitable for vegetarians. There are a ton of them! http://cheese.joyousliving.com/

RE:
Enzymes in Cheese?
I've been a vegetarian for a couple of months now and have continued to eat cheese and eggs. Recently I was told that some cheese has enzymes from baby cow's stomaches. When you look at the ingrediant list it just says enzymes. How do you know what type of enzyme is in the cheese? Any...

Its probably to do with the cheese. A lot of cheese is made using rennet, an anzyme derived from the stomach of cows and other dairy animals. You can get cheese made without this but it will always say that it is suitable for vegans/vegetarian. Ops, sorry. Someone has already said that. Hope it helps anyway.

If it just says "enzymes" they are either animal enzymes or the company does not know. Usually if they are non-animal it will say "rennet free" on the package or it will say non-animal in the ingredients. Most organic cheeses are rennet free.

Vegeterians donot eat meat, fish and eggs but they use milk!
You donot kill the animal nor can an unborn young come forth from milk so milk is safe to use.
But rennet is an enzyme taken from cows lining and therefore its like meat cause you gotta kill the animal to get it.
To be safe ,you should buy vegetreian cheese, all supermarkets got it and use things like vegeterian yogurt.

well im no scientist but.....cheese is made from milk...milk comes from cows...so how can cheese not have some sort of cow enzymes? I thought vegetarians were against meat, not enzymes.

first of all cheese is dairy and vegetarians do not eat dairy also.
those claims that there's different types of vegetarians is a scam... sorry, diary is from animals and many dairy animals aren't treated very well either along with egg laying chickens.
get educated.. read up about this.
you want cheese? get soy cheese... read the labels.. some 'vegan' cheeses have dairy product in it like some soy processed meats.
