Since your blood pressure is normal with medication, you can have some salt. But VERY LITTLE, otherwise you may as well stop your meds!!!

It all depends. Not every person with hypertension is salt-sensitive. Slightly less than half the average population is salt-sensitive; it may be higher or lower in India. This is why some people can eat comparatively huge amounts of salt without getting high blood pressure.
Your physician may be able to test this. If not, the simplest thing to do is avoid salt altogether. Use more herbs and spices to increase the flavor, or try a potassium chloride salt substitute. Given your age, you might also want to try some zinc supplements, as taste perception fades with age and is typically related to a slight zinc deficiency.

What I was taught in nursing school was that people in general only "need" 2 grams of salt (or 2,000 milligrams) per day. What they also taught us was that since so much processed/packaged/prepared foods already have so much salt in them, most people get enough BEFORE adding any. They do make salt substitutes but the problem with those are that they contain potassium, which can cause you just as many problems as salt with over-consumption. Usually doctors specifically advise patients to stop using salt if they think it's really important, so I'd check with him/her first. But check out this article too (link below) and whatever you decide to do, good luck!
