When your heart is producing a regular beat with an irregular pattern it is called an arrythmia. A person may have this condition all their life with no signs or symptoms sometimes the arrythmia can result or can lead to a dysrythmia,an irregular heat beat and irregular pattern, there are many serious dysrythmias some of the more common are.
Tachycardia- Heart beats 100-150 times
Bradycardia-Heart beats <60
SVT- Heart beats >150
A-Fib-Atrial chambers in the heart beat irregulary
Ventricular Tachycardia- Ventricals in heart working overtime
If you are noticeing a change in your heart beat you should always consult your Physician

first of all, dont take any advice from someone who says their mother/brother/father/sister/daughter/son/aunty/neighbour/dog/cat/bird had this.
members of the general public are often misinformed. Information is interpreted wrong or they havent heard all of what has been said.
when a heart beats out of rhythm it is simply called an arrythmia. There are many different types of arrythmias caused by many different things.
Bradycardia and Tachycardia are NOT arrythmias, they are sinus rythms that are too slow/ too fast but are a nice steady beat with all the pqrst waves necessary to qualify for a sinus rhythm.
good luck with your exam/assignment or whatever it is you needed the answer for.

Arrhythmia -
My late husband had this, plus he was born with Tricuspid Atrisia.
Murmur -
My mother and I both have this.
Ventricular tachycardia -
My father, my daughter and one of my sons have this.
According to the site listed below, if your heart doesn't beat with an even, regular rhythm, it is called arrhythmia or dysrythmia. Why not check it out yourself as it seems to be pretty informative.
We had a scare with my son last year (he had to have a procedure done, as he did faint) and when my daughter was pregnant I was on pins and needles as she was born with her heart condition. It wasn't until after her father passed away from his that we found out that it didn't stem from *her* father, as we originally thought, but from *mine*!

What it sounds like you're describing is a heart palpitation. Relatively common in youth and early adults, but worth checking out in older patients. Usually harmless, and nothing to worry about.

arrhythmia maybe
Actually, "foo" I'm right :)
Arrhythmias refer to heartbeats that are too slow, too rapid, irregular, or too early. Rapid arrhythmias (greater than 100 beats per minute) are called tachycardias. Slow arrhythmias (slower than 60 beats per minute) are called bradycardias.
Sometimes I get an irregular heartbeat that takes my breath away. Strange when it happens but doesn't really seem to be a problem or get worse.
