I've been a vegan for almost 4 months and find on occation I go through strange taste/smell issues. Like a few nights ago garlic smelt like pee or something very foul, like garbage. And the next night, I was fine and back to chowing down on it....

I do notice my sence of smell is more sensitive and going grocery shopping often makes me gag.

I am generally a gassy person, but being vegan has made me more gassy. Not sure why, but it isn't in the least bothersome, smells better and isn't painful.
I can feel gas bubbles moving through my intestines on my left side between my belly button and pubic bone, but not food. Perhaps you feel gas, or you are eating alot more fibert than before and this is what you are feeling, it should settle down. You might be allergic to something though, so if it doesn't have a talk with your dr.

I don't get digusted by the foods I used to love, because I don't eat them now and don't have them in the house. It is normal for anyone to go on certain food strikes.

Keep up the good work

I'm not vegan, as I still have occasional dairy. My sense of taste & smell changed too. I've developed much more of a taste for veggies (which I've always liked anyway) & have somewhat less taste for sweets-- I prefer baking my own cakes & such so I can use less sugar & exchange @ leasr part of the flour for whole grain (not to mention that I use egg replacer).
Now I find the smell of meat hideous & actually gruesome. It smells like what it *really* is, not what I'd been culturally indoctrinated to believe it is. If my SO wasn't also vegetarian I'd probably have to eat in a different room than him. My closest meat-eating friend doesn't eat meat around me, which I really appreciate although I've never asked her to abstain when I'm around.
Extra gassiness is often a temporary situation as your body gets used to its new way of eating. Two weeks is a relatively short time & your body is still adjusting.
Good luck with your new healthy lifestyle!

Your taste buds and sense of smell becomes more acute. I can tell now when something in a salad is not fresh, despite it looking perfectly fresh and crunchy.

Your food is probably digesting faster now that it is not clogged up with animal proteins - which can sit undigested and fermenting for a long time.

Make sure when you eat fruit that you eat it alone. Fruit is digested very fast compared to other foods, so if you eat it after other foods it will sit on top of them in you intestines wanting to move through faster but unable to as the other food is yet to be digested. This can create a bloated feeling and also gurgling. They say eat fruit at least 1/2 before other foods and not for three hours after.

I think meat must be an aquired taste, because I've never eaten it and it truly disgusts me; it smells like death and looks like roadkill. Even eggs kind of disturb me. I'm allergic to eggs and lactose intolerant, so the only thing I really gave up when I made the switch from vegetarian to vegan was products with casein and small amounts of milk, macaroni and cheese dinners and powdered parmesan cheese. I found the alternatives for all of these items identical in taste to their dairy counterparts.

If you're having stomach issues, it's probably just your body adjusting to the extra fiber.

Yes that is true I had a Teacher in grade school and he had lost his sense of smell and it made him not able to taste.
