The whole ethanol idea is going to be tragedy to our country. With it taking 1700 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of ethanol and that it takes foreign fuel and fossil fuels to produce ethanol, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to know this is BAD idea. I believe the Agri-Business lobby and ethanol lobby are doing their job, but the politcians are either being bought off or they aren't being told the whole story with using ethanol.

that's it,
not to mention the poisoning of the soils with excessive fertilizers, poisoning the water with pesticides, and wiping out all indigenous flora AND fauna in the process.
on top of that the whole idea produces more carbon pollution than all of industrial contamination and the worlds motor cars together .
Only Transient Aliens could have come up with this gem of a pill to accelerate Global Warming under the banner of curing it.

You make some good points, but the 1700:1 water to ethanol is far from correct. However, it does take one gallon of oil to produce one gallon of ethanol. The only way to do this effectively is to recycle the water used in the distillation process and get energy for the distillation from either solar panels or wind mills. It's definitely a bad idea the way it's done today.

True Agri Bussiness is in it for the sole purpose of selling their produce. Their is a lot of biofuel BS going around as a wonderful idea, it may be, but not a the present day cost to produce it. I think corn really sucks. Lots of Nitrogen required for a 7 t0 8 foot stalk that may only produce 1 ear of corn.

I do so agree with you on this subject!!! You're not a person who can be swayed by media hype... good thinking on your part.
This is just another means of jumping on the proverbial profiteering bandwagon, and I don't support the burning of ethanol anymore than I do the burning of fossil fuels. They are still polluting the environment!!!

Yes. This is a wrong road to go down when there are so many better short and long term solutions to the fuel problem.
