maybe check www.vegsoc.org and see thier pages for new veggies & young people.

You don't need to worry about vitamins nor protien of you get a balance.

veggies don't eat meat, fish nor chicken. also watch out for the slaughter by-products that are in 70% of food....you'll need to cut that out as well.

best of luck with it, its easy after a few weeks

How cool that your cousin's vegetarian, she can help you a lot with questions & moral support ;-)
You'll get plenty of protein as long as you simply get enough food to eat every day. Beans, whole grains & tofu have a good amount, all veggies & fruits have & least some protein & it adds up during the course of the day.
If you decide to be vegan, or if you just don't eat much dairy, you should take a Vitamin B-12 supplement (they have vegan or vegetarian formulas). For the most part, as long as you eat a variety of fruits, vegetables & whole grains on a regular basis you shouldn't have any trouble getting enough vitamins & minerals.
Don't worry about the ppl who try to tell you you "need" meat or otherwise try to mess with you. Being vegetarian is perfectly healthy, healthier than being a meat-eater, as long as you're fairly smart about your food choices. Good luck, and if you have more questions this is a good place to ask them--- just listen to the *real* vegetarians.

Yes of course fish is an animal, and a very big misconception from people claiming that you can still be a vegetarian and eat fish, those who eat fish aren't vegetarians. Your choice in food you can eat though is endless! Pretty much anything you used to eat now has a [cruelty free] substitute, such as veggie burgers that taste pretty damn similiar to the real deal. Alot of people think vegetarians lack nutrients such as iron and B12, be sure to eat plenty of dark green leafy veggies and mushrooms as well as they contain iron and B12. It may seem difficult at first but having a guilt free conscious make your efforts worth it.

Congrats on making the choice to go veg!

As long as you eat a varied diet of fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and beans, you'll get all the necessary nutrients. Here are a few good sources of protein and iron:

Also, here's a food pyramid for vegetarians: http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/food_groups.html

The sites http://www.tryveg.com/cfi/toc/ and http://vegcooking.com/makingthetransition.asp have lots of transition tips, menu ideas, and other resouces.

Good luck!!

I think you should stop reading the lies that the animal rights activists keep feeding the world. Become a vegan because you want to, not because you feel sorry for the animal population of the world.

Consider this about vegetarianism: If you think you're not hurting animals by not EATING them, think again. Have you ever watched a giant harvester moving through a wheat field? Think about the ground dwelling animals and birds that are getting minced up by those spinning blades.
Think about the automated harvesters that move through ANY vegetable field, with guys standing on it. You think they care about field mice that get caught in the pickers?
Stick to being an omnivore. You won't be a hypocrite.

Beans have protein in them......Take a vitamin supplement. Oh just a little note here, I don't think you are hurting animals, someone else does that.
