I was recently at a family event where none of the food--not even the pasta--was vegan (they got food at a nearby Olive Garden). I ended up bringing leftovers I had cooked the previous night and enjoyed them immensely. Did I feel lonely? No, not really. I felt a little strange, I guess, because I'm eating something totally different from what everyone else is having, but I hope the food looked good to them.

I also think the best thing to do in such cases is to make something to ensure you have something to eat.

No, not at all. I respect their food choices, and they respect mine. Today, for example, we are going on a family picnic. I am fixing meat sandwhiches for the meat eaters, and salads for the veggies. We can all enjoy eachothers company-we dont have to enjoy the same foods. We can share some things, like veggies and dip, chips with hummus, etc., but the main meal is an individual choice.
