My baby cousin (baby she's just a year younger) wants to have a 21st bday party but she doesn't want or can't have alcohol because most of her friends are under 21 but she still wants to have fun. Suggestions?

WoW, here in Australia we get to drink at 18 so...bit easier... BUT, I have to agree with the other dude that games and things is the only way to go. Make sure they stay occupied. Some people may come already drunk, it seems pretty common at parties i have been too AND some ppl might end up bring alcohol and not letting the adults know.

If their are invitations then it should probably be set out on the invite that definitely no alcohol is allowed.

I think your going to have your hands very full and you might even have to decide that a little bit of alcohol is okay but not to much. At least then you will quite possibly have a bit more control. But, good luck

Since drinking and driving don't mix, how about a photo scavenger hunt?

My friends planned one for my bachlorette party since none of us were into the bar scene, and it was a blast!

You need to write up 20 clues about places in the city. Teams of 3-4 must drive to each location and take a picture. Each picture is worth 5 points. Award 5 bonus points for each picture that has all team members in the photo (a stranger out and about needs to take the photo) and 2 additional bonus points if all team members are in the photo AND an extra person is posing by them.

Set a reasonable time limit. Have all teams meet you back at a location, and you collect the disposable cameras. Go out for a meal, while you get the film developed at a one-hour photo place. Next, maybe go bowling, or to a sports game. During that activity, or after, pick up the film, look through the photos, and award prizes.

Best of luck!

just like some of my friends are too i'm turning that next 5 months so I understand you can have spiked punch like they have during prom or homecoming so it doesn't be all boring and kiddy the non-acholic version. then you can have a root beer float in champagne glasses with a little cinnamon on time and vanilla ice cream that should be a crowd pleaser.

Fresh Fig Gelato Recipe courtesy Massimo Palombi
Show: Tyler's Ultimate
Episode: Ice Cream

1 1/2 cups sugar
1 pint water
3 cups pureed, peeled fresh figs (other fruit purees can be substituted)
1 tablespoon "neutral" stabilizing powder*

*Cook's Note: Purchase this online or at cake decorating supply stores.
Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan. Simmer over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Increase the heat and boil the syrup until it thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove the syrup from the heat and allow it to cool to room temperature.

Mix the puree with the cool syrup, then stir in the "neutral" stabilizing powder, whisking for 5 minutes. (The stabilizing powder prevents ice crystals from forming and helps ensure a smooth textured gelato.) Chill the gelato base thoroughly then process it in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. Spoon the gelato into containers and freeze until ready to serve.

A 21st birthday party should definitely not happen without the celebration of alcohol, in my opinion. You have a very tolerant cousin!

I'd suggest going clubbing/dancing, if you can get an under-21s place.

Mocktails. Turn your basement/living room (or apartment) into a "club". Create an awesome soundtrack on the I-Pod or computer, change out the regular lightbulbs for colored or black lightbulbs....and create a "scene". I agree with the suggestion of karaoke too...if she's into singing. See if you have a family member who's good at photography, you could set up a photo station (this is what I did for my 21st). One completely separate idea is Cosmic Bowling. Also, going out to a Comdey Club might be awesome...where we are we have an Improv club...and all ages are welcome.

Bust out the grill, and barbecue your brains out. Food galore, hopefully will distract everybody away from thinking about the booze. Have plenty of other kinds of drinks on hand, like soda, but try to keep it unusual. Try looking at some of the Goya sodas like coconut, and mango and stuff. Good luck.
