I posted a question earlier. Thanks for your response.
I got diagnosed for FBS 130,three months back. From then,I am using ayurvedic medicine.Blood Sugar has come down. After three months,I got Hb1Ac test done and the result is 5.2%(Non-diabetic).I am slim(underweight),has good lifestyle.Parents are diabetic at the age of 50.I am 27 now.

I want to know if Hb1Ac test shows really shows if I am diabetic or because I was using ayurvedic medicine for the past three months, the results does not show exactly if I am diabetic.

My Symptoms:

Extreme tiredness only.

Please suggest.

The A1C hemoglobin seems fine. No it is not the gold standard test to diagnose diabetes. even a FBS of such level is not either. A tolerance test, insulin tests, antibody tites are important. It seems that your tireness could be due to hypoglycemia. But, listen..best thing is to address all this questions with your physician. Maybe he knows something none of us know. But, yes, you are write..you need further evaluation and something is not right.

The Hb1Ac test is done to check how well your BS has been controlled in a 3 month period using the prescribed medication, diet and exercise. This test result will show whether your meds need to be adjusted. It appears yours has been working incredibly well. Most Doctors hope their patients are in the 6.0 range--which unfortunately is not easy for everyone.
I don't know if you had this done, but usually there is a test done at the Lab, where they have you drink a sugared fluid (like soda) and you sit there for 3-4 hours. Then they test your urine/blood. This will indicate how quickly your sugar level will drop during this period based on the average healthy person. So if your BS level is high, then your diabetic.
Thats good that you maintain a good lifestyle. Make sure you check your BS daily 2-3x (70-113 is recommended). Beaware of symptoms of LBS(low). Also, let your Doctor know about your "Extreme Tiredness", it could be a med side-effect or your BS is a bit low.

Hope this info helps...

Hb1Ac test is a good indicator of this, but are you doing a self test or going to your doctor to be tested? I am assuming you got a test with your doctor, and I am sure if you got abnormal values, which are usually over 6.1, they would have said something. I also think that your doctor knows what medication you were using over the past few months and would be able to tell you how this would affect your test. If this was a self test then I would say you should talk to your doctor and be given a more official test.
Good luck.

I strongly suggest you ask your dr to send you for a Sugar Glucose Test. This is a test where you drink something sweet and then wait 2 hours and give both a urine and a blood test then more blood every1/2 hour. This then measures the rise and fall of your sugar levels after a meal. This is the best way to establish if indeed you do have diabetes.

Since you had 130 mg/dl in your FBS test, this indicates that you have diabetes, but in your HBA1c shows 5.2% , which is non-diabetic , does not mean that you do not have diabetes. It is an average of 3 months.. it is under normal limits..that means that your sugar level has been very good (almost normal) from last 3 months...may be due to Ayurvedic medicine.

Diabetes is in your family which means you could have a genetic predisposition and a strong possibility of having to live with a mild form of diabetes that may worsen as you age. Now you can most likely control it with diet and exercise while maintaining a normal weight. The hemoglobin A1c is the most accurate test for diabetes at this time.

^5.2 is good for a diabetic, if you weren't diabetic your readings would be in the 4. range or a little lower according to everything I have read. Providing you were diagnosed correctly it's probably the meds. and/or your diet.

What ever you do don't go off your medication without your doctor's guidance, even if you no longer need your meds. you may have to wean off with your doctors supervision or you could have adverse effects. Good luck, I hope this helps.

If you had the test done at a clinic that does the testing themselves, you should definately get the results by the next day. At the clinic I go to, I can have labs drawn in the morning and have the results by the time I see the doctor in the afternoon.

I think the medication may affect the Hb1Ac. The medication would be controlling your blood sugar on a daily basis and therefore when checking the Hb1Ac -- it would be affected since it's an indication over a 3 month period.

The Hb1Ac test shows the average blood sugar level for the previous approximately three months. How are your cholesterol levels?
