Only if they're from California ;)
Seriously, it just depends. Most of them aren't the happiest and are hooked on machines if you're buying from a store. The only way you could be sure is to find a local dairy farmer and buy directly from them. Soymilk, however, tastes no different from regular milk and is cheaper than organic milk. If you want to satisfy your cheese cravings you could find a local dairy to buy from. It might be expensive but you'll eat less of it that way. There's a small dairy in Marin County that seems to be quite popular if you're ever in the area.

Really, any animal used for our food is not happy. There is no such thing as "happy milk", "happy eggs", "happy meat".
Organic milk is no better than regular milk. Organic cows are merely fed organic food; they can be treated any darn way the farmers want them to be treated.
All mass-produced milk is going to use machines to milk the cows. It would definitely not be efficient enough to hand-milk a cow.
In order to make sure a cow was leading a happy life, you'd have to visit the farm where the milk was coming from, see the condition of the cows, ASK WHERE THE BABIES GO- especially where the baby bulls are (veal), ascertain where the cows go when they're "spent" (hamburgers), ask if the cows receive specialized healthcare from vets, check to see if they're branded (do they use anaesthetic?) etc...
Discount about half of what the farmer says (unless he or she is running a very small operation) and ask yourself- Is the enslavement for this animal worth my cheese sandwich?

....for this answer ill just give my own opinion, (this mean i dont know the scientific answer, so in ur intrested, look it up)
i believe the word organic mean anything thats not engineered. u know about bacturia right? well, we all know how fast they reproduce, and when learning about genetic engineering, i heard about them using bacturia, and changing them into milk molecule, so when they reproduce, that ,mean the "milk" is making more "milk" as for "happy cows" its just a advestisement "organic" mean its naturally grown

Would you be happy if someone forced you to have baby after baby--after all, cows have to be pregnant to produce milk--took the babies away at birth, and then stole your milk so someone else could drink it?
