I never really realized how strongly I felt about second hand smoke until this morning when I was walking in the pharmacy to pick up my meds for the pneumonia I was just diagnosed with and I had some douche bag blow smoke in my face. How do you feel about second hand smoke? Should public smoking be illegal?

I have mixed feelings. As a respiratory therapist I wish everyone would stop smoking. There is enough respiratory work to be done with out smokers.

As a politically conservative kinda guy, I feel that if some one wants to spend all their hard earned money on a product that is going to kill them selves that's fine. However, they may end up on a ventilator in an ICU someday with out the saved funds to pay for it. Then government will use my tax dollars to pay for their self induced respiratory disease. I dont like that.

Second hand smoke is dangerous (especially to those who already have breathing problems) If the smoker wants to kill him/her self then go ahead but exposing others to second hand smoke is the smoker damaging others. Then is a not just their issue anymore. They're infringing on others at that point.

people like that should just be punched in the face. i am a smoker and when i see someone walking by i normally hold my cigarette behind me and i try not to take a drag till after the person passes. smokings a choice so why punish those who choose not to. it was nice to see that in new york, where i live, they banned smoking in pretty much all buildings. but not matter what you still get the jerks who blow smoke into peoples faces. those people should just be kicked in the junk.

Public smoking is getting to be further away then expected, faster then one expected. That's good.

In a restaurant, they recently went non-smoking due to bans, four people came in and sat several tables away from us. They all lit up, ignoring the "no-smoking" signs. I told the waitress I would not eat, we already ordered, if they continued to smoke, she ignore us.
I again told her, she shrugged her shoulders. We told her as long as they were breaking the law (ban) I would not expect to be charged for a meal we can't eat, our evening ruined by the smokers and, our meal.
The supervisor said he would call the cops for us leaving, then I told him, I would press charges at him allowing people to break the law by smoking. He relented and we left.

I have asthma and emphysema from earlier working with chemicals that at the time were not considered dangerous. Now I'm paying for it. I won't allow someone that's arrogant to blow smoke in my face or, even smoke in my area, It's my air also.

well being a smoker i have to say that this person should have been asked to step outside to smoke. i will not smoke inside a building. its just rude, not everyone likes the smell and most cant stand it. i wouldve stood up to the person asking them to please go the other direction with the smoke and if he had a problem with that tell the store manager. its a pharmacy for crying out loud. They shouldnt allow smoking in a place that carries oxygen. i'm sure they do carry o2. if they want to smoke take it outside for the sake of people who want to breath clean air.....Hope you get feeling better....

I believe public smoking should be banned, and in my state (Illinois) our lawmakers just passed a law to make it illegal, which takes effect this coming January. Now the challenge will be to see, like someone mentioned in here, if the restaurants, etc. will back it up, or not. If it is not enforced, it won't mean much, will it?

I really hate second hand smoke. I hear its even worse to have second hand smoke than to be a smoker. So, yeah, if you can cause damage to someone else by smoking near them, you shouldn't be allowed to. It should definetly be illegal to smoke in public.

I don't like it either because of the headaches, watery eyes, and stuffed nose I get. I think smoking should be banned from public places. The sectioned off stuff never seems to work.

don't get me started! I hate it more than anything, the smokers just don't get it cause they are selfless and they can't quit or just don't want to
I've heard that quitting smoking is harder than quitting drinking.
they also don't smell the smoke they are use to it cause it's in their body, hair, house, car everything.
it's one of the rudest things on the planet.

It should be illegal. We pay billions in health care costs because of the damage done by smokers to themselves and other. I hope you said something to that jerk.
