I haven't seen anyone recover from a stroke after 3 years in my career,BUT I have seen a 1 person recover immediately after CVA, and later on he underwent 3 major surgeries.
I think he had strong faith in God and strong will power. In my humble opinion you can recover, if you have both. God has not us at the mercy of others, he has given us willpower and faith. Miracle do occur and always think positively.
I wish you a happy and early recovery.

I had a stroke 5 years ago at 47. I have luckily got over it and apart from having to take Warfarin and aspirin daily it hasn't affected me.I had a cerebellar infarct which means that it was the cerebellum (not the cerebrum) which was affected.About a third of major strokes are fatal, a third result in some disability, and a third have no lasting ill effects.About half of all patients recover more or less completely from their first stroke. Most people paralysed by a stroke learn to walk again.Survivors left with some disability may require occupational therapy and aids in the home.About 5% of patients require long-term institutional care.
You can see from these statistics that you have a very good chance of (a partial if not full) recovery. Good luck.

My father survived 20 years after stroke. First attack was when he was 60 years. He lived until he was 82 years. Have your health checked every month by your family doctor. Stroke cannot be predicted and how worse it will be.

After 3 years recovery as such will not occur. However you can retrain much of the damaged parts of your body, using alternative neurological pathways and muscles and you may be able to improve things that way. it is only possible to do this with the help of specialist physiotherapy.

Why yes, the chances are good, you don't say how you have been affected? Use all the help you can get, occupational therapy to retrain your muscles and nerves and speech therapy too if your speech has been messed with... time and exercises with some positive attitude! Seize the day, good luck!

Hi Tom.

There are strokes - and there are strokes.

Some strokes affect you for just a few days and then you are fine again - others leave you disabled for the rest of your life.

I presume your doctor knows how bad your stroke was - why not ask him?
